Does anyone have any details about the mandatory athlete meeting Friday night? Is it really mandatory? I see it in the schedule but don’t see any other mention of it in the athlete guide. It seems odd that there would be a single one hour meeting that all athletes must attend. It would seem to make more sense to stagger multiple meetings through the day like other races such as Vineman. I have a conflict with the meeting Friday night and want to know if I really need to attend. Any insight into this would be much appreciated.
They don’t take attendance, but given that it’s the first time the race has been held at this venue - it seems like it might be a good idea to show up.
Last year at Clearwater is was held just after the the dinner on Friday night. They showed a generic video that wasn’t specific for the 70.3 WC event. Then they had the directors of the swim, bike and run legs talk about those courses and had the bike officials go over the rules.
They did not take attendance.
If they want it to be mandatory, then they need to do it like they do at Hy-Vee…mandatory meeting first, get hand stamped showing that you attended and then allowed to pick up race packet.
I’ll attend since it is the first year at this venue and I’m still not quite clear about how the two transitions are going to work (more for my cheer squad since the distance between the two is considerable).

I have been to more than a few pre-race meetings where the directors actually said something that was extremely helpful come race day. It’s an hour or two out of your day…
