Two full 1000ml bottles is ~4.5lbs. Iâm guessing the athlete weighs a bit moreâŚrounding error (even when factoring in the cantilever and the other contact point pressure distributions).
âMaking a statementâ often means communicating without words, sometimes with their actions. Itâs a common English phrase. I believe here they meant by Lionelâs stellar and dominating performance.
What puzzles me is why do these guys âthrow awayâ their races just because of a puncture? Ok, they punctured, they could still just repair it, lose 3-4 minutes, and get back at it. I think there may be a bit of mental toughness lacking or somethingâŚ
Maybe the thought is that its not worth cooking yourself if you are so far back that the race will not count in the pro series point system. Better to take it easy and go all out in another race.
Also, KB did not throw away Oceanside, he hammered the run. Much have been discussed about the flat kit questionâŚ
Kinda surprised Magnus didnât pull the plug and race France next weekend. Does anyone know if he is planning on staying in the States and doing Eagleman?
I think Lionel only has Ironman WC Nice on deck in terms of his 140.6 schedule and after Nice he has Marbella worlds on Nov 10. So I donât know where he crams in an Ironman unless he does something soon. June 1 is IM Hamburg and IM Brazil (donât know which one is pro series) and June 15 is Cairns and Austria, then we have end of June IM France Nice that he could do in recce mode and just cruise thru (but Lionel either goes hard or blows up). Seems like June 1 are the best option races to have the most time to recover for IM Worlds and put in a solid volume block
@Nick_wovebike I was thinking about this. Somewhere else Jan Frodeno said that if Oceanside was every weekend Lionel would win every 70.3 race. He kind of almost does when the race has elevation and has a wetsuit swim.
But Lionel is not a massive guy. Heâs on the smaller end of many pros (minus Lange). Oceanside, St. George, Tremblant where Lionel is kind of unbeatable, just have a lot of elevation gain. I think both Nice (I donât think itâs really that technical that he loses much on the descents because switchback descents also favour smaller athletes) and Marbella should be good.
With the form Lionel just demonstrated and what will be a ho-hum start list at Cairns, taking on the pro series and shooting across the KB bow seems like an awesome idea.
For the record I didnt say they threw away their races, I said they are throw away races. And both guys finished them, so I suppose the only thing lacking was a spare tube and not mental toughness as you suggestâŚ
Actually although Ditlev had a really bad day in term of results/points, he managed to qualify for 70.3 WC which is no easy feat at some races. Noticed on Pro Tri News that Sam Long had not taken his slot for Wc which benefited/rolled to Ditlev. Wurf for example has not managed to WC qualify despite having already started 3 70.3 (Geelong, Oceanside DSQ and St George). As often mentioned European races are stacked with Aix en Provence with 15 WC qualified athletes
I will probably start a thread about non Series Races as Lanzarote start list. A bronze tier PTO race with a tiny prize money with a SOF of 87 !
Well besides just wanting to honor the last race in StG, that may have been his motivation to continue on with the race. Glad he got his slot, pretty crazy to see who and what caliber of athletes are not yet getting WC slots.
Just here to point out that long was 7min behind the winner in the last t100 race
Not saying this is the gospel but I think people should calm down a bit.
Sanders performance was certainly very very good but how good is hard to say .
But in a way linoel is like gewn they both win 2 Nd tier races very regularly but at the highest level
The world best 70.3racer in the world has 0 medals.
No doubt he is the best north American 70.3 racer ever , but more is really hard to argue .
Well it was a course record, on a course that virtually every great half distance triathlete has done over the years. So not that hard to say. Not to mention he rode up onto the wheel of the guy considered one of if not the fastest bikers in the sport. And he closed that minute faster than anyone would have, or could have predictedâŚ
Do we know when Ditlevâs tyre started losing pressure?
I just find it difficult to reconcile the idea of Ditlev being caught on a bike as quickly as that even by a legend like Sanders, without mechanical reason.
Watch Justin Rieleâs summary. He basically said it was a max effort for him to follow Ditlev until his own flat tire. And Sanders closed a 1 min gap while Riele was going all out to stay in the wheel of Ditlev. Believe it or not but it happened
From what I could see, Lionel caught everyone, and then he and Ditlev began to break away. Seems his flat came after that point, but of course that minute gap was already made up by thenâŚ
