Thanks for the info. I guess I just feel like if I’m going to spend a couple thousand dollars it should be beautiful. I know the gulf coast. It’s ugly. It’s not cute or fun or exotic, but it is flat. I don’t care about a PR really, because I have no records. I do worry about the lack of competition in the DR… I really don’t want to win my first triathlon, that would be sort of embarrassing.
I don’t think this will be a problem. You will get some fast guys/gals for sure. When I did the 70.3 in Puerto Rico in 2017, there were a lot of fast athletes from South/Central America and Mexico. Like B - said, you will probably get some folks doing just over 4 hours. Plus Ironman branded events generally have excellent competition, even the smaller ones. One of the reasons I like doing them.
Cap Cana estate is very safe. I don’t really find the DR unsafe.
In Cap Cana Juanillo beach is a nice place to swim which is a public beach. Calm and they have it sectioned off with ropes so that you can swim for a few hundred meters parallel to the shore. It is also a really nice place to run. I have done a lot of 20km / 30km runs there with plenty of different route options.
In the Juanillo beach area there are new apartment complexes built in the last 2/3 years that appear a lot on air bnb that are usually good value and are nice place’s to stay. One or two of them have smallish outdoor pool’s . Not mad about the fishing lodge area which have large out door pools. Too pastiche and over built for me. Never stayed in resorts there.

Thanks for that. I wasn’t sure if I misremembered the beach area being sectioned off that’s why I didn’t post that. I just looked back at some pictures and yes it was sectioned off so one doesn’t need to worry about motor boats.
Looks the swim course will be entirely contained in that sectioned off area.
Cap Cana is a close area and Punta Cana is very secure.
And just like that, I’m signed up. I wasn’t planning on it until 2025. But what if there isn’t a 2025? Ironman cancels races too easily nowadays. I’ve lost out before waiting for the next year so decided to sign up.
Nice, you can look for an airbnb inside cap cana, let me know if you need any information, i live here in DR.

Thanks! Appreciate the offer. I may contact you closer to the race.
I’m excited to have a fun, tropical event at the end of our very long cold winter. Will be sitting in the sauna for this race!
Highly recommend Secrets Preferred Club Bungalow Suite Swim Out Pool View. Its attached to the “bigger pool” and bar opposed to the Ocean View swim out that have smaller pools. (still awesome depending on your preference)
What? No current-assisted swim? Count me out.

Thanks, definitely keeping this in mind. The Hyatt is another option (the adults only side). But also have my eye on a couple AirB&Bs in the Cap Cana area. We do well in short-term rentals. But also have to consider location of grocery stores and rental cars.
