Iran on verge of disaster

That would be a lot of trucks.

Hence my snark

And where would they source the water from?

The desalination plants they built 10 years ago.

Ah, but I did. And you could substitute Johannesberg for Tehran in the article and it would still work. Almost word for word on the issues.

I don’t really know how to compare any of these slow-rolling disasters, but Very Salty Puddle City probably warrants a place on the list.

The Caspian sea is disappearing at a staggering pace. There are villages that were fishing villages just a generation or so ago that are now 50 kms from the shore.

They could build a pipeline? Didn’t Qaddafi built some big water pipeline in the Libyan dessert?

Not in time

Israel has always had a successful water setup that supports agriculture and urban development.

TIL / TLDR - Israeli engineers did this for Iran during the Shah’s era. Then it went to shit with the usual corruption and mismanagement of post-Shah administration. Netanyahu has offerered Israeli know how again in exchange for peace. Good luck with that. They’re blinded by hate.

Not only about water, but life in general for Iranians is causing widespread unrest.

Iran is going to implode

Iran has been on the verge of disaster damn near my whole life. I remember the Shah “going on vacation” in 1979. The evening news saying he was in hiding, and I swore he was hiding a few houses down the street from me in Cheney WA. There was a man who looked just like the pictures I was seeing on the evening news.

From The Atlantic:

At one point last week, a U.S. dollar traded for almost 1.5 million rials, having lost more than half its value in a year. As recently as 2021, a dollar cost around 250,000 rials and, only a decade ago, around 30,000.

When you can’t pay your security forces - or when the payment is meaningless - you’re in trouble.

Wow, those numbers are staggering.

Jim Geraghty’s Morning Jolt at NR quotes extensively from a think tank report on Iran’s dire economic situation. Lots more bad news there.

Part of the summary reads,

Ghasseminejad closed his report with a succinct summary of how the Iranian revolution has run a once-prosperous country into the ground: “The tragedy of Iran under the Islamic Republic is not a lack of wealth, but a surplus of ideology. As long as the Islamic regime exists and Tehran views its economy as a logistical engine for spreading terrorism and Islamist ideology rather than a mechanism for national prosperity, the suffering of the Iranian people will continue in an ancient land blessed by abundant natural resources.”

Another regime change in the works? I mean, Iran does have oil…

It makes you wonder. It’s a weird and empty threat considering that the Islamic Republic has been killing dissenters for a very long time. A quick google estimates that they’ve killed 2,500 protestors/dissenters over the years.

Also bit difficult to take as serious when the trump admin is very vocal that protestors should comply with authorities.

Also trump has been parading around with the leader of a country famous for killing peaceful protestors just this week!
