It has frozen up on me while running 2 or 3 times out of 50+. Including one of my last runs.
4-5 hour battery life. I guess most get around 8. I complained, sent it in for repair, got a brand new one. Same issue. Even if you get 7-8 hours, the nano is about double that.
nano has a color screen, its lighter and smaller. Won’t freeze up on a run.
My neice’s friend sat his nano, broke it. Guess small and light can be a drawback, but that’s a pretty odd incident, I would think.
I have been using the mini for a year now. I have had no problems with it other than the battery not lasting as long as I expect sometimes. I just clip it onto my shorts, didn’t like the arm band thingo, the headphone cords get in the way of my arms when running.
I just got a nano. I love it. It also has a calender and a stop watch along with some other features. I am looking at motifiying a beto box to hold the Nano along with an armband. The only problem so far is the lack of arm band for it. I think I will return from my workout prior to the 1000 songs finish playing.
Can you use a mini & shuffle with the same software (iTunes) i.e. share the music etc. between the two devices.
Want ot buy a Shuffle for my wife but I don’t want to go throught the hassle of 2 iTunes software on the same computer.

All iPods run off the same iTunes software. You might need to download an update to make sure you have the latest version, but that is free.

On our PC, there is one copy of iTunes, we each run it under our own login - I ripped all our CDs directly into my library first, then added my music directory to her iTunes library so there is only one copy of each song, but we each can control our own playlists and what gets synched to each of our ipods, which podcasts we subscribe to, etc. Should be basically the same story on a Mac.
The only area I’m a little unsure of is what happens when I buy music from the iTunes store - I think it will be playable on both iPods since you can pass rights to a song to I think 5 computers, but I’m not completely sure how that works.
Do yourself a favor and do the Shuffle. I have a Shuffle and a MINI. Here is my rationale:
It’s almost impossible to use the wheel with sweat and water in your hands so it’s unlikely you’ll be using the wheel thingy.
No matter which device you choose, they’ll go flying out of clips, hands or pockets at one point or another. I’ve dropped each more than 5 times ( some at “high” speed ) and you can definetively tell the abuse on the MINI. The Shuffle still looks ~new.
I don’t know how much music you have, I’m not a music junkie. I haven’t been able to fill either one, even including audiobooks.
Granted, the NANO looks VERY nice. I just don’t know how much it can take the “training” abuse.

Yeah, but I don’t want to get it wet (sweat, assuming I work up a sweat some day)–I have even left the plastic on it until they come out with a neat case to protect from scratches, and I don’t want to fiddle with the playlists anyway on the bike. Therefore, Shuffle for training–set it and forget it. Nano for everything else. Mini and 20Gig for sale.

I don’t think the world of audio-didonics has been sufficiently explored and this is really a step in the right direction. Soon women will no longer need us. They’ll just need a long train going by. It’s available for $69.95 at the aptly-named Grand Opening.
I have 2 of the 512MB players. They are absolutely awesome. Paid about $60 for each. Not a substitute for a micro drive player (I have a 30g dell dj too) but by far the best truely portable music device available. Switch between FM and MP3/WMA with 2 clicks. No need to mess with sucky iTunes crap software, just load it up like you would any other usb storage device. No extra cables needed.
I looked at one of these but still went with the Ipod Shuffle. Just was not sure about accessory availability with that one. Also, there was a nice waterproof case available for the shuffle. That is essential around here!
