Ipod video question

Just got an ipod and wondering if anyone can help with how to download movies, music videos onto this thing. Any recommended sites? (free and fees)

iTunes
.

If you want to download DVD content, I suggest using Cinematize. You can get rid of the menu’s, special features, etc, and just save the movie in the proper format You can then manage it in iTunes.

In general for music, podcasts, etc, you’ll be using iTunes.

If you use something other then iTunes, you need to save music as AAC (MP4) files to play back on your iPod.

www.xilisoft.com has a DVD to Ipod video ripper. I have used it, and it works well without being any more complicated to use than it needs to be. There is a trial version you can experiment with before you pay your $25 or whatever.

I also use the DVD audio ripper quite a bit to put the audio tracks of a DVD onto an Ipod nano.

Itunes will not help you load DVD’s to your video Ipod, but you can download other content such as music videos, and I guess some television programs (haven’t done this).

There are other portable music/video players on the market that are more geared toward ripping DVD’s than Apple’s. Apple is trying to make their money on the distribution of media so they tie their players to iTunes tightly. The movie industry isn’t too keen on this so you do not see a lot of movie content on iTunes to download. However, it has been very successful for Apple in the audio business, so I believe it is just a matter of time…the market has spoken as to how it prefers to get its content and it is chosing the internet. Incidently, the giant semiconductor company I work for is also putting it’s muscle into enabling internet movie distribution…see the Viiv platform effort for home PC’s in your entertainment system. It will happen.

thanks for the help, i’ll check it out. I did download this one converter (trial version) but it still doesn’t allow me to transfer the MOV or mp4 files.

get Handbrake to rip your DVD’s …then upload to iTunes…then sync…

Hey thanks! But it’s only for Macs right?

yes…
