iPod/iTunes Question

A plea for help to the technologically inclined ST’ers.

I’ve finally manged to fill my iPod nano (4GB), how do I take off music I don’t want and add new stuff to the iPod without deleting it from iTunes? I find the iTunes software seriously frustrating so if you could dumb down your answer I would greatly appreciate it!

And no, upgrading to a new iPod is not an option at the moment.

Thanks!!

To do this I create playlists and in iTunes you can choose which playlists to synchronize.

That’s easy enough for me to actually figure out!

Thanks.

Sure. If you need any more info I’m happy to help.

I’ve got a question as well. I’ve currently got all songs downloaded from itunes on my laptop. I have a new laptop and want to move them over. Is there away to do this that does not involve flipping disks back and forth (like one of those drive sticks)?

Looks pretty straight forward. You can use your iPod basically as a hard drive to move the files over. Here is an outline on how to do it.

I use an external hard drive to transfer the itunes music library. I don’t think you can transfer that without an external device if you have too much to fit onto a dvd (assuming you have a dvd writer). I guess you could copy it to multiple discs but that isn’t all that convenient.

Thanks!

The way I do it is by creating two playlists.

  1. Create a list called “My Favorites” or something like that. Drag all the songs you’d like to listen to into that playlist. It can be as big as you want don’t worry if you have more music in there than what your iPod can hold.

  2. Create a second Smart Playlist called “iPod Songs” or something like that and configure it this way.
From the pulldown menus select “Playlist” “is” and in the third pulldown select “My Favorites” that you set up initially.
Then put a check in the checkbox where is says “limit to” and then put in the size of your iPod and select GB from the second pulldown.
Finally where is says selected by you can choose “random” or “least recently played” that way it’s always moving new music every time you sync your iPod.

When you set up your iPod you can choose which playlists to sync, you should choose the iPod Songs as the one you want to sync.

Very cool idea!

Thanks.
