Intriguing: 70.3 Worlds 2027 in California?

I feel like the date for Oceanside 2027 still being a TBD has got to be a tell.

The first qualifying races would be either end of June or early July so they still have a little over a month. But I think it would be best to give people at least 2 weeks notice before the qualifying race as to where the 2027 worlds location is.

I’d say there’s full transparency. In Europe, people are buying entries to races that award 70.3 WC 2027 slots hand over fist. They are aware of the unknown being unknown. Fair game!

First qualifying race is July 5th in Sweden at 70.3 Jönköping. I still believe they are announcing at the end of May, but it is getting a bit long in the tooth.

With apologies for popping that conspiracy, I suggest the tbd is because Easter Sunday in 2027 is 28th March and that will be a weekend that command of Camp Pendleton will want to minimise numbers who have to be on camp that w/e.
I have checked the last 7 years and Oceanside is never on the Easter w/e: I conclude deliberate avoidance.

In the ‘afters’ of the pandemic Oceanside was raced on 30th October so I guess an early date in November (at least three weeks after Kona) could be a goer.
I cannot conceive a world champs with 3000+ competitive athletes on the normal bike route north. Maybe others will have a different view.

70.3 Les Sables d’Olonne, 70.3 Muskoka and 70.3 Jönköping are the first races with Qs for 2027.

Right. Oceanside seems to be that first weekend in April pretty typically. They moved it to March 28th this year because Easter was April 5th. In 2027, Easter is March 28th. I don’t think they’d move it even a week earlier in March to the 21st, so you’d think it would move it back to April 3rd……They know the race is happening and, I think, they know the date it would be……

I just feel like they’ve always known and listed the date fairly quickly. I did it in 2023 and I feel like I remember them having a QR code and discount to sign up for 2024 at the expo.

Anyway

Let’s push this thread back to the forefront as opposed to feeding the rank speculation that there won’t actually even be a 2027 Worlds race simply because the announcement is late. Today on PTN @Kyleglass91 reiterated hearing about Oceanside and Chattanooga. Kyle, I was told by Scott DeRue at Oceanside the two day race was a problem for the base, just FYI. His Chatty “evidence” is similar to what has been posted here by a few others regarding road work the state of Georgia is looking to do on the bike course route that could be supportive of a major event.

Well yes-ish. This title has Ca and a ‘?’ in it. Dev’s thread title has a broader context (and deliberately designed to achieve clicks). I am very pleased the announcement on insta of the 2027 World Champs I shared there got 100+ clicks and earned a ‘popular link’ - sorry that people likely moved on with a ‘ffs’ ejaculation.

@Kyleglass91 revealed he’d been checking the registration pages and that the above suggested that these two events were ‘contenders’. All the early US 2027 70.3s are similar, in this respect.

I won’t lie. I don’t pay attention to the WT WC years in advanced locations PR that they normally announce, so when I saw the post, I had a WTF…ITU is having a GF in July, so the season is going to be 3 months long? lol. And then I realized that was basically “everything else” world championship that WT covers; not the itu WTCS race.

And I guess it’s still sort of in the running, close enough. Point is this thread is a discussion of where it might be, not that it simply won’t exist, which is silly.

My guess is Nor Cal!

What he said, and I didn’t check this, was that these events were normally open for registration at this time in a normal calendar year and are not as yet, which he found suspicious. I don’t think it is odd.

Nor do I. I’m more curious if Oceanside will be over $700 next year. (I think it will)

I’d be ok on one hand paying more for premium venues if it meant that money was flowing into the city to make our business a valuable thing for the city to lose.

On the other, I wonder if IM going up up up in price is obviously limiting attendance. Rather why not seek to make Ironman weekend a 10,000+ strong “multi sport” festival is what is really costing us venues.

Ironman meet Ironrun.

The issue is…Ironman already double dips with their rock and roll series. But what if they combined them on the same weekend? Has this ever happened?

Many Bostonians, I assume, hate race week. But the city is not telling 30k people plus entourage to hit the road.

Ironman, as always, my consulting fee can be paid by slowtwitch PM.

If you change the url for the 70.3 Nice WC website to 2027 instead of 2026 it now says “access denied” instead of “whoops… that page doesn’t exist”. I think there is an announcement incoming!
