just watched interview with Andrew Starykowicz - didn’t know much about him other than ridiculously fast on the bike. Came off as a real punk. Very arrogant. Big difference b/t arrogant and confident. Not even that respectful of the sport, all about himself. Made it clear that he “doesn’t like” other pro’s. Just seemed odd. Haven’t had much exposure to him previously. After watching this interview I sure hope he is not even relevant on Saturday. Wow.
He is awesome, he speaks his mind.
I think he is the next Macca in that regard.
Link?
really? I wanted to think that and kept trying to. but it was more than speaking his mind. he was off, weird and bizarre. kind of douchy

His delivery doesn’t touch Macca’s. He’s not even close.

I think you have to see where he is coming from. Everyone is suggesting to him to hold back on the bike. However, he knows that he cannot run a 2:50 marathon. So what’s the point of the discussion? He has to push hard on the bike to win a race and he does that successfully in other races, so why change the strategy for Kona? I think he’s just tired of these questions and is joking around with the people asking them over and over again. He has no other option so why not make some fun out of it? Sure he’s not a humble guy but if you hammer out the bike you have to be this sorta crazy.
HE NEEDS TO HAMMER THE BIKE SO WE CAN GET NEW BIKE RECORDS SO MY GRAPHS WILL PROVE THAT AERO HAS IMPROVED!
Of course his bike isn’t that aero and he may be on the slowest tires on the market so, it wouldn’t really prove that point.
I think really my point is that he is not politically correct and says some outlandish things.
I think he makes it kind of fun with saying he wants to “inflict pain”.
He speaks his mind and he’s not happy with how the WTC treats pros. I see nothing wrong with that… and, yeah, he’s probably sick of people telling him to slow down on the bike and run faster.
I think it’s his gimmick. Kind of like in wrestling, he’s just playing the heel in triathlon. Some like it some don’t. God knows the sport needs some type of flair.

Isn’t that kind of scary? If he had a faster setup, you might see him go sub 4:00 on a fast bike course… and still run a marathon. Maybe not a super-fast marathon but still. That’s crazy sauce.
hmmm - just watched - he seems like he lacks self-awareness and emotional regulation which does not portend well for him - either as a racer or a representative of sponsors.
“if i wasnt tapering i’d dance right now…”
i see the opposite, i’ve already exchanged some messages with friends laughing about his interview and excited about seeing what starky is going to lay down on the bike this year.
i think he brings a different kind of personality to triathlon but one that we need
+1 agreed, nice to have an edge and not afraid to speak independently.

Is he still wearing a Giro Air Attack helmet?
The first few times I heard him talk, I thought he was something of a nimrod. But then I started to get his humor. Now he’s one of my favorite athletes.
Babbit: Is that one of the things you’re trying to do–get people out of their comfort zone?
Starky: That’s the reason I race–to get everyone out of their comfort zone. I like to win and punish.
He only wore that at Kona, I believe. Maybe it is his hot weather helmet.
He holds his head pretty low which makes that helmet less bad.

Well I do. The guy is the shit so get ready to watch him for 4h during the live coverage on Saturday. It sure will be much more interesting than watching a bunch of guys ride 10m apart.
I sure hope he is not even relevant on Saturday. Wow.

Prob true. I mean, it worked out for Lieto.
