Interval question

I’m currently reading Daniels’ Running Formula and I have a question…for cruise intervals, he recommends a rest period about as long as the work period, but I can’t tell if he means total rest as in walking, or moderate rest as in an easy jog. If I do a walk, my hr goes down to about 90, but if I maintain an easy jog it only goes down to about 130 after the rest period. Which is best???

CRUISE intervals, or threshold intervals are short rest relative to the work load, ie 6x1000m with :60 rest- INTERVALS (5k pace effort) are equal work to rest ie 3 min on 3 min off at 5k pace.

See the chart below.

Yea, you’re correct. I mistakenly said “cruise” since that was what I was just reading about. I just did an interval workout consisting of 5 1200’s with 4 min rest between. Anyhow, what is the “rest” supposed to be? Walking or easy jog?

jack had us do anything from easy jogging to walking to just :kicking your legs around" depending on the rest interval.
