Mr. Empfield’s commentary from 11/3, while biased towards WTC, does point out an important fact…that the sport will be healthier when both USAT and WTC agree and “make nice.” Whether that happens or not seems to be in WTC’s hands. This whole thing was probably never really about rule differences, althought they were there. I get the feeling that WTC has wanted to go its own way and be the king of the castle so to speak. They are more interested in the bottom line than anything else. While my own personal feelings about drafting rules mirrors that of the ITU (abolish every last one of them or start the whole race in time trial format), there does need to some uniformity in what gets enforced as far as drafting goes. I’ll bet that come Feb there will be some global consensus on rules and I think I speak for everyone when I say…Finally!
