Interesting story on the $2,500 car

Interesting stuff.

Tata is a huge car maker and growing like crazy. Their ugly rigs are all over E. Africa.
I had no idea the 1909 Model T could get 21 mpg.
And I do agree the world deosn’t need millions more cars. Or at least we need a hell of a lot better infrastructure to accomodate them.

And on the flip side - that is the front running company to purchase Jaguar and LandRover from Ford.

For an interesting overview on how big this movement is in India, check out http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=122977 - lots of players with skin in this game.

And while I do agree the thought of millions of more cars disconcerts me, I do hope that the emissions on these new cars have to be way better than the current 2 and 3 wheel scooters that are the common form of transportation. Those engines are just horrible.

This is what ticks me off about “Environmentalists” like this:

‘Chief U.N. climate scientist Rajendra Pachauri, who shared last year’s Nobel Peace Prize, said last month that “I am having nightmares” about the prospect of the low-cost car.’

Yeah you’re having nightmares about poor people in India getting some of the benifits of technology that you enjoy. Last I checked you don’t walk or ride your bike everywhere. You take a private jet around the world. Oh yeah, you pay Al Gore for carbon credits to make yourself feel better. Jerk!

“The car will meet safety standards”

Gotta wonder whose safety standards! Still pretty impressive in this day and age.

I volunteered in Central America in November and everyone there was talking about this car, but at that time (2 months ago) it was still the $1500 car.

A Tata rep there told me that car would never saw the light of day in the US, due to UAW resistance.

Plus, US consumers have an elevated standard of consumption. I can’t even remember the last time I was in a vehicle without electric windows.

UAW?? at one place i worked that ment unemployed ass wipe
