Interesting observations about the world's fastest Tri Bike

As i look over the latest issue of Triathlete and mostly at the bikes of Kona I just thought I would point out some ‘interesting things’

Normann’s bike

  1. No bottles or cages on the frame
  2. 2x behind the seat bottles (low)
  3. Large aero bottle on the front
  4. no internal cable routing
  5. duct tape

Jone’s bike

  1. 24 oz on downtube
  2. 2x24 oz behind the seat (medium)
  3. Gel bottle on the stem
  4. Bento box
  5. Electrical tape

As it turns turns out it looks like we are all wrong. The way to go fast is to have behind the seat bottles, stuff hanging off the front of the bike, a bento box, and at least some tape jerry rigging something onto the bike (two tubies and two CO2 plus tools by the look of it.)

Also a note that both we running Ceramic bearings and oval spokes.

And what does all this prove? Well nothing really, just that to make these bikes go really fast it helps if your name is Stadler or Jones.

Damn. I gotta get some more tape. Does anyone make it in carbon or titanium?

it proves that if you can push big watts, the rest doesn’t matter a whole lot.

(duh, now if that isn’t stating the obvious…)

Like I’ve always said, IT’S THE ENGINE THAT COUNTS.

yup, horse not the carriage. i do have plenty of tape on my bike come race day though. gotta keep those tubbies on somehow.

I’m pretty sure his duct tape had dimples.
