There are 50,000 homeless in LA. The average death rate across the US is 844 per 100,000 people. I don’t think it is unexpected that homelessness has an impact on life expectancy.
Another statistic that might surprise you is that black babies are twice as likely to die before age 1 as white babies. So being a black baby has about the same impact on your mortality rate as being homeless.
working with the homeless for many years, the numbers seem rather low to me. I wonder what criteria is used to consider all of them homeless.
