That is a very interesting talk by the Brownlees’ head coach. Think you would get more responses if you changed your subject line to say this:)

Agreed but it would also have been a tad bit more accurate if the head coach had mentioned how much time the boys and girls spend training elsewhere than Leeds…

Good stuff. Thanks for posting.
Worthy of a descriptive title.

I wasn’t aware of this, can you elaborate???

The Brownlees used to spend a lot of time at Club La Santa (I don’t know exactly but I’m guessing 2-3 months a year). I think they’ve now bought themselves a place in Spain. So it still fits the hippie mantra, namely ‘have bike will travel’, but the take home message should be that the Leeds philosophy is decentralised, whereas the Loughborough one keeps a tighter reign and is thus less successful. It’s just not possible to train properly in the UK for early season races, Smith and Lessing didn’t live in the UK either and that was back in the 90s when they’re were also dominating the ITU scene…

Ah, I see now, thanks for the info!!!

“You might say that is just because of the Brownlees”

Yes, I was thinking that! haha

Kind of saying a lot based on a small sample size of outliers.

Good talk. Fascinating his answer to the unheard question towards the end, he does not have much time for lab testing, he uses performance and knows when his athletes are aerobic or anaerobic. I assume the question was about lactate testing etc, shame there is only the answer and not the full question.

Yeah, lab testing is very interesting and important for research, but it isn’t clear that it has immediate actionable use for coaches, at the moment.
