Interesting IMNA sign up stats

Trying to burn off some nervous energy…

So I see that IMLP sold out in 10 hours. Meanwhile, IMAZ which opened in April is now at 1863 entries, and CDA which opened about a month ago is at 1627. Looks like AZ will take about, what, another month or so to fill and CDA perhaps about the same.

Interesting in a meaningless, Cliff Clavin kind of way, I guess. Like I said, nervous energy…!

This is not meaningless. All this means is that Ironman LP is within driving distance of:

New York,

Boston

Philly

DC

Cleveland

Cincy

Pittsburgh

Toronto

Montreal

Ottawa

That alone is around 40 million people within a day’s drive not including all the small towns in between so you can see why it sells out. Arizona and Idaho just don’t have the same “catchment area”

PCB is within driving distance of nearly nothing big besides Miami and Atlanta and fills in 10hrs.

I agree - these numbers are NOT meaningless

In 1863 - President Lincoln freed the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation and

In 1627 - the man considered to by the first Canadian - Louis Hebert died and

Aurochs became extinct. (Aurochs were large wild cows that were breeded with domestic cows)

So, these numbers do mean something and you are not the only one with time on your hands.

Thank God, I’ll be busy putting on a race next week. Z

In addition, they’re early season races. That’s a lot of trainer time for those in colder climates. Even in milder climates you’re going to be doing a lot of weeknight rides inside or in the dark. CdA’s not as bad, but has more of the “remote” factor with less density of population within a day’s drive.

Lastly AZ is entering it’s second year and CdA is going fourth (?). Still relatively new in comparison to LP which has sold out faster each year.

You can add New Orleans, plus it’s a “fast” course which appeals to those who want to avoid hilly bike courses. Add the annual “this might be the last year” effect.

Like LP, it seems to sell out faster each year.

Don’t forget about Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville. Plus you have New Orleans not too far away in the other direction. All of these cities has an NFL team with the exception of Orlando which has an NBA team. Major sports leagues do not put teams in small towns.

any other stats/dates or interest?

I would not call the Orlando Magic a “professional” basketball team - they could not even get their first draft pick to leave Spain to play in the NBA next year.

April 7, 2003 the day that Smartasscoach registered on this forum.

What year did that French lady tell everyone to “eat cake”? Z

I guess if we are going to get nit picky about the quality of the teams, I should revise my list because it is hard to say that New Orleans has a professional football team.

“eat cake”?? what’s that?

You guys are all too much.

But I suppose that’s why I spend so much time here now!

See some of you tomorrow/Sunday for Vineman…good luck to all.

That is true - but New Orleans has a great new young QB from Florida State - Adrian McPherson - He is very good - just keep him away from the Casino.

Come on - you remember - during one of your revolutions - some Queen was told that the people were complaining about not having any bread to eat - she asked why they did not just “eat cake”.

oh that was Marie-Antoinette…that austrian bitch! wasn’t even french…
we cut her head off. her and her fast husband…Don’t mess with Tex. huh France!

They have had some great players over the years but it has not been a stable organization. Mangement issues more than talent. Years ago they had Archie Manning the “Franchise quaterback without the franchise”.

since you talk Football, what do you think of Zidane and Beckham?

I guess I forgot that this forum is worldwide, I was getting caught up in a sports discussion with my states Gatroade rep. In place of football which can be misconstrued internationally I should have said NFL or American football.
