So I see that IMLP sold out in 10 hours. Meanwhile, IMAZ which opened in April is now at 1863 entries, and CDA which opened about a month ago is at 1627. Looks like AZ will take about, what, another month or so to fill and CDA perhaps about the same.
Interesting in a meaningless, Cliff Clavin kind of way, I guess. Like I said, nervous energy…!
This is not meaningless. All this means is that Ironman LP is within driving distance of:
New York,
Boston
Philly
DC
Cleveland
Cincy
Pittsburgh
Toronto
Montreal
Ottawa
That alone is around 40 million people within a day’s drive not including all the small towns in between so you can see why it sells out. Arizona and Idaho just don’t have the same “catchment area”
In addition, they’re early season races. That’s a lot of trainer time for those in colder climates. Even in milder climates you’re going to be doing a lot of weeknight rides inside or in the dark. CdA’s not as bad, but has more of the “remote” factor with less density of population within a day’s drive.
Lastly AZ is entering it’s second year and CdA is going fourth (?). Still relatively new in comparison to LP which has sold out faster each year.
You can add New Orleans, plus it’s a “fast” course which appeals to those who want to avoid hilly bike courses. Add the annual “this might be the last year” effect.
Don’t forget about Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville. Plus you have New Orleans not too far away in the other direction. All of these cities has an NFL team with the exception of Orlando which has an NBA team. Major sports leagues do not put teams in small towns.

July 16, 1969, a movie is shot in Hollywood showing a bunch of guys in white suits, pretending there is no gravity…The movie gets his TV show called Star Trek.
I would not call the Orlando Magic a “professional” basketball team - they could not even get their first draft pick to leave Spain to play in the NBA next year.
I guess if we are going to get nit picky about the quality of the teams, I should revise my list because it is hard to say that New Orleans has a professional football team.
Come on - you remember - during one of your revolutions - some Queen was told that the people were complaining about not having any bread to eat - she asked why they did not just “eat cake”.
They have had some great players over the years but it has not been a stable organization. Mangement issues more than talent. Years ago they had Archie Manning the “Franchise quaterback without the franchise”.
I guess I forgot that this forum is worldwide, I was getting caught up in a sports discussion with my states Gatroade rep. In place of football which can be misconstrued internationally I should have said NFL or American football.
