So…
I get to my gym to swim yesterday, pick a locker (all unassigned lockers here), start putting my stuff in, and then notice a piece of trash in the locker.
It turned out to be an open AndroGel packet (testosterone gel 1%).
My gym has a very diverse demographic, and it’s beyond plausible that many of the members have been prescribed testosterone.
It only gets complicated when that type of member is mixed in with competing athletes. For what it’s worth, there are members at my gym who compete on a much higher level than I do.
Which raises the question: what does one do in this situation?
I ended up collecting the oozing trash with a ziploc bag, met with the Executive Director in the interest of opening a dialogue, and made her aware that she had a delicate situation to peruse. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a whole lot of suggestions to offer her; hence my inquiry to you guys.
What do you mean a delicate situation and you don’t know what to do.
You found an empty prescription medication container.
So what would you do if you found an empty bottle of Viagra?
Personally I wouldn’t have picked it up in the first place and left it for the cleaning crew.
What did you hope to accomplish by bringing it to the executive director and investigation?
.
It’s a delicate situation partly because
a) it wasn’t empty; it was still oozing
b) it was still there today (cleaning crew wasn’t thorough)
but mostly because
c) one man’s prescription medication is on another man’s prohibited list, so what happens when these two dudes share a locker?
My purpose in bringing it to the director was to open a dialogue and express my concern that anonymous members are careless with “hazardous” trash.
Much as I’d be concerned if I opened a locker and found a used insulin needle.
Good chance you’re right.
Every episode of Cops, though, has a perp saying “I’ve got a baggie of meth in my pocket because I borrowed these jeans from my cousin and I never looked in the pocket.”
Kaiser, the next delicate situation will me sneaking out of your house dressed as the “pool boy” before you get home from work. Thanks for the sterling input, though.
I think his concern is that one man’s trash could unknowingly an issue for someone who might have thrown their shorts into the locker and noticed the oozing packet of testosterone gel, then put the shorts on. That person could then later be tested and found positive for a banned substance.
I see it as an issue, but once again it falls on the athlete to be thorough to ensure they don’t mistakenly ingest or use a banned substance.
If I were choosing a locker and saw something in the locker, I’d pick a new locker. If I saw a slimy mess at the bottom of a locker, I’d pick a new locker or at least be very careful not to put anything in the slimy mess
I’m pretty sure the chances of testing positive to a pair of shorts wiped on the minimal remaining “ooze” of T are as close to zero as you could statistically get. About the same chance of getting enough carbs from sucking out the last morsel from a discarded Gu packet.

Eliot,
You’ve been reading too many ST doper threads!
Androgel is commonly prescribed to treat testosterone deficiency and the gel packet is a common form to be applied to the skin and absorbed by that route. Some people really are tesosterone deficient and it clinically helps them be normal … others are tooling the system for enhanced steroid effect by so called male enhancement clinics that raise their testosterone levels to the upper levels of normal from some lower level. It is all legal … some of it just borderline ethical. It really is of no consequence that the packet was in the male locker room … if you start seeing a lot of hairy women with deep voices you should probably tell the directors … otherwise its just a sloppy case of container disposal … no different than if you found someones used and disposed insulin syringe.
Chill out … we won’t report you to pick-6.

She was likely sitting there thinking what a waste of time that you brought this up. I actually saw a TV ad on CNN for Androgel today
it was test cream. lots of middle aged men are prescribed it. no big deal. creams probably don’t even raise your levels enough to fail you. its very low dose therapeutic stuff. now if you found vials of test and heavy gauge needles then you’d have found something.
