Interbike.. what's there to see this year?

Last year we had the unveiling of the P4. It seems like most of the 2010 bikes are already on the web, so what’s the big news this year?

Not much. I have it from a good source that folks like Cervelo, Specialized and Trek will not even be there…could be Interbike is going the way of the IM Expo…

I hear that the first night Richard Simmons is going to be the guest speaker and break the news that will be exciting for quite a few female AG…wind tunnel results with dimpled thighs.

Chip,

For big companies with long lead times for orders, Trade shows such as Interbike, may not serve their orginal purpose of getting sellers and buyers together under one roof at one time. It’s true that the companies named above will not have a big presence at Interbike in the formal sense, of having a booth on the show floor. I do know that Cervelo does have something planned, away from the show - as I received my invitation to this exclusive event the other day!

However, there are many other companies for whom Interbike is an essential part of the selling/buying process. Our company - Nineteen Wetsuits is one of those. We are actually over-booked with meeting with customers and prospects at our booth for the three days of the show. For some of these people it’s the only time of the year that we get to see them face-to-face.

This may not be a gee-whiz year in the business with big new product announcments or developments, but the really key and interesting thing I have always found about Interbike, is not so much the fancy new stuff in the booths - it’s those private conversations you have with colleagues, customers, prospects, media folks, marketing people etc . . in the business in the aisle or off to the side. This business, like any business is about relationships!

Probably see you there. The other thing is cervelo did “Brain Bike”, Trek and S also have their deals - no need to pay $100k + on Interbike.

Chip,

Please drop by. Nineteen is in booth#1055.

Look forward to seeing you.

Agreed on all accounts. I’m going to catch up with some sponsors, talk to potential new ones but first and foremost to talk with those companies that we carry at Adrenaline (my local shop) and cement those relationships and talk about the things to come in the new year. Geeez… it is going to be one VERY long day…and night. Then Kona flight at 5a the next morning. Wow…ow.

***Edit: MVA posting… was logged on with the shop account.

I’ll have to make sure I stop by and say “Hi!” too. I’ll be wandering around there this year for once

You’ll see a few suprises I’d wager.

For those that care, Tuesday, the 22nd at 2pm DZ and CVV will be hanging out at our dirt demo booth signing whatever you want to put in front of them:

Felt is among the brands using an expanded Dirt Demo as our product into at this event. We’ll eliminate the huge trade show booth at the Sands, bring the booth and then some out to the dessert so you can see, touch and ride everything.

New Kestrel Bicycles including the Kestrel 4000 series.

The entire Kestrel lineup has been changed with some huge appovements on our frame layup and again improved the cable routing.

Bikes just left on the truck and trailer heading to dirt demo and then off to the Sands and then off to HI Ironman.

Make sure to stop by the Kestrel Booth # 1431 and @ Dirt Demo

The expense at Vegas for a big brand with a big presence (big floor plans, several huge delivery trucks, lots of employees, tons of hotel rooms, flights, food etc) is enormous and not an easy pill to swallow. Smaller brands who have less stuff and can hand carry their stuff in have it a lot easier.

Yeah I agree with what Herbert said for the big companies it’s not really worth the expense, plus what I see a lot of them doing is bringing their accounts to their headquarters. For example specialized flew in quite a few of their stores to Montreal to have a look at the new line. I imagine in the states this also probably happens. I’m pretty sure trek does the same thing. Another note is that not many of my retailers (I rep for about 5 different companies all bike/tri related) are going to either btac (our canadian show) or to interbike. This has been the case for quite a few years, and I see most of my accounts (99%) face to face so they don’t need to go to interbike unless they are new stores looking for new suppliers. It is way cheaper for me to fly into interbike with package deal than it is for me to fly east to montreal, so I choose to go to interbike.

Not sure who your source is but according to Interbike, they bought some huge booths? Specialized and trek right next to SRAM and Shimano?

Does bonktown have a booth?
If they do, we will get a map to it - left under our wiper blades, or handed to us by a Karishna at the entrance. No doubt in a “suite” at a hotel down the road (Circus Circus I bet)…

You are very smart

few times there…that and CABDA, in either case it seemed that most of the “cool stuff” was always outside of the Expo hall (meaning parties)
.

We’ll find out I guess. Slowtwitch will have daily updates from Interbike starting Monday.
