Inspiration/Gordo

This story about Gordo is amazing… It’s amazing what one can do when they put there mind to it. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=401

PS. How long do you think it took Gordo to go from this…

to this…

a while and a lot of hard work and determination! Gordo is one of the coolest dudes I know. I’m sorry I don’t see him as often as I once did. :frowning:

Fascinating story. It’s my understanding he didn’t have that much of an athletic background before getting into tri. Shows what determination can do.

Gordo has a new blog on his site. Inspirational stuff. One line in it, something about how we can look for a reason not to run, bike, swim, etc., on a given day, but it is exponentially harder to find a reason to r, b, s was exactly what i needed twice in the last 2 weeks to drag my sorry butt out the door after a long day in the courtroom. I love his approach and demeanor.

Gordo is one of the most classy people in Tri - his wife Monica a wonderful woman too…We should all try to be more like Gordo…only faster.

so it took him a few years to transfor from joe average to very fit, lean ironman machine,

I wonder … how long to get back to the first pic ? 3 months ? if he really tries

We should all try to be more like Gordo…only faster. I’m sure it is not the way you meant it, but this statment sure sounds like it infers that Gordo is ‘slow’.

No it doesn’t, your post makes you sound like you’re “slow”…

Gordo turned out to have a damn good motor underneath the hood. Ain’t gonna work out that way for too many of us, regardless of determination.

We set our own limits!!!

i think he talks about it being a many year process (6 - 8 sticks in my mind) to get from one pic to another.

gordo to me seems a very unique case and then really not…

Unique in that he must have some physical gifts, the gift of time (self created though) and huge focus/drive

Not so unique in that we all CAN/COULD do athletic things far beyond what we think we can if be apply our selves with fierce detrmination and a willlingness to sacrafice - we all have this choice to a pretty high degree - the tough part is just doing it.

yup. your right. I’m just a few points South of one Olsen twin’s weight on the IQ scale.

I wasn’t making a dig at Record as you have decided to do at me, but showing that there is a way that his statement can be misinterpreted.

I reckon you must have come up with the whole ‘bigger motor under the hood’ analogy on your own, man I sure wish I could come up such insightful and original thoughts.

I’m sure I’m missing the obvious, but I can’t find his blog. Help, please.

Hope this helps: http://www.gordoworld.com/gblog.htm

Thanks. I started to read it, and it does look interesting. But, uh, Monsy? That’s her pet name? Yikes.

And what brilliant insight that was. Didn’t think you were a jackass, thus the  on the end. I’ll have to re-think that now.

KestrelK – No we don’t! Limits are hard-coded in us. It’s HOW CLOSE we get to those limits that we determine. Most of us have a long way to go to reach that.

Hey Aztec, go f*** yourself. :^) .

But don’t get offended, there is a smiley at the end.

I now see tighty whities in a whole new light.

The irony I find in the photos is that I have several of myself looking about the same as the first one (heavier Gordo). I was ten years removed from high school athletics and 5-6 years out of college. I recall vividly the feeling of, “Hey, I look pretty good for an ‘old guy’.” I was in my late 20s. Now, in my 40s, I am lean and much, much more fit overall. It amazes me the change in how I perceive my health and body image since becoming more active as an adult and, more specifically, after becoming involved in tri.

Cheers X,

Glad you enjoyed the interview. Gordo’s story is actually once that I continously reference when I need a good kick of motivation.
