Has anyone race at Harriman? There’s a qualifier there in May.

I’m signed up for the harriman race…will be a hard course up there.

This is absolutely huge. This is what the sport has needed for a long time.

The bar needed to be raised.

I may need to be here…

dammit. Same time as IM Western Australia effectively. That totally sucks.

What can you tell me about the Harriman Course?

have done some adventure races with the promoters. they put on good events. Harriman is hilly…so there will be lots of climbing on the bike. run is a mix of road/trail…the folks from SBR in the city are also invovled. you can see more on the promoters site genesisadventures.com

You going to register today? Making sure my passport is up to date.

I think this is the first year for the 1/2IM at Harriman. I did a Sprint there 1.5 years ago. It looks like they are using the same loop x 4 for the bike as the sprint. If so, then it is quite hilly. Big hill right out of transition, then a screaming decent into a u-turn. (Picture it and you have the right idea - way too much speed, way too sharp corner, straight into another climb). All sorts of chaos at that turn, including people forgetting to downshift for the climb and doing the wobbly weave out of the turn, smoked carbon rims, etc…

After that it is much tamer, with just rolling hills back to the lake. Quite a pretty course if you happen to glance around while racing.

Doing that 1st climb and descent 4 times would get pretty interesting…

I agree…that should be an interesting but scenic course.

Thinking about their Bahama race…does anyone know if you need a passport or would a birth cert and drivers license do?

I’m doing the 1/2 IM in Harriman. I live about 35 minutes away and have headed up there a few times. The parks dept. barricades the road being used for the bike route during the winter. I checked last weekend and it is still up.

The run course is around Lake Sebago. My pal and I have set out twice to follow it but have become lost both times. We can’t tell if the trail hugs the lake directly on the shore or if it is up the ridge or not. Then again it was 5:00 AM, 24 degrees and a sunday morning with head lamps so we may have missed a turn or two.

Hilly is definitely the proper word to use for the course. I’m actually a bit apprehensive as this is my first 1/2 IM tri. Yet I’m working my tail off to get ready so it should go well.

Lake Sebago is going to be a balmy 60 or so degrees. Fun…

If anyone is going to scout the course out PM me and we’ll try to hook up.

Regarding the Bahamas tri - I bounced the idea off my wife. She bounced a frying pan off my head…Have a good time everyone…

The Harriman Half bike loop is actually going to be the standard Sprint course, only in REVERSE. x4. See the attached link for more info:

There’s a course map at the bottom of the page…

I personally think this is going to suck even more than I originally expected. The bike now includes a fast and twisty downhill rather than a dead-straight one, and you get to climb in the sun rather than the nice shady part. The run includes some fallen logs on tight singletrack and 2 stream crossings. (not that I mind that in general, just not with several hundred of my closest friends on it all at the same time.)

So much for a PR…

I would agree that Harriman is not PR friendly…but the logs and streams will keep it interesting for those of us that like to get off road.

Found this getting into Bahamas, don’t have to have passport.

U.S. and Canadian citizens entering The Islands Of The Bahamas as visitors are required to show proof of citizenship with either a passport (current or expired within five years) or two forms of identification, one of which has to have a photo. For example, you may bring your birth certificate and a drivers licence.

Heard that SBR MultiSport Tri on May 21st will raffle some spots to Bahamas.

For those interested, see attached race update posted yesterday:

Race Updates

April 11th - The rain and flooding from last week has washed out the beach at Lake Sebago. A major repair operation is required and the beach is going to be closed until further notice. Fortunately there is another beach site just up the road as Lake Welch. This will be our new main event site. The swim will move to Lake Welch, probably won’t be any warmer. The lake is on the bike loop so the bike course remains mostly unchanged. The only difference is the starting point on the loop. As a result the largest hill climb on the loop will come at the very end of each lap. The largest modification will be to the run course. The current plan is to run from Lake Welch down to Lake Sebago, complete our original loop and return on the road to Lake Welch. This should put us right near 13.1 miles with one loop. The good news is that this will reduce the amount of trail running by 50%. The bad news is that Lake Welch is at the top of the hill, you will have to descend to Lake Sebago which leaves a nasty climb back up to Lake Welch at the end of the race. We will work to finalize all details by next week.

Sounds like big fun…
