Ok, now that IMC and IML are over, time to focus on IMMoo. Yes, I know this has been discussed before (I remember from last year), but, want to hear the current collective thinking of Slowtwitch.
For those familiar with the course, you realize IMMoo is hilly and fairly technical. Not a lot of areas where you just tuck and go. So, with that in mind, how does that affect my choice:
Zipp 909s.
Zipp 404s.
Went with the 404s last year, but, there was no decision to be made b/c I did not have the disc. Goal this year to break 5:30 on the bike (knock on wood). Still torn on helmet, but leaning toward Giro Advantage 2 over the LG Rocket.
I don’t understand why you wouldn’t ride the disk. I’ve done the course and the race and have no reservations saying disk. Do you prefer the 404s?
Nope. Preference is to use the disc. Longest race with the disc so far is a 1/2 IM at Racine. Loved it. So, leaning toward the disc. However, wanted to hear from people who have ridden Moo with a disc to see if there were any reservations about using it on this course. Thanks.
My bike is similar to yours (I went 5:25 on the bike last year) and I used a Blackwell disc and front 100. I would use the disc. I caught a little bit of wind with the front wheel.
Doesn’t matter IMO…personally I find that my bontrager 6.5’s have better accelleration on the steep hills, but the disk is faster on certain rolling sections. The bike doesn’t mean as much on this course. Good luck.
