Update:After doing nothing but swimming for a week,I tried to run. After 30yrds,felt tight stopped and area of IT band had a deep ache.Seems not healing. So I stretched and stretched, massaged and massaged, and tried to run again. LO and behold,no pain but after 30yrds feels tight so I stop. Now the ache on side of quad and left foot. Repeated above and tried to run,leg got tight and hurt by IT band again. My wife massaged my quad on the side and had a stabbing pain in the foot, but pain completly gone by the IT band. WTF!! Called a DR. scheduled to see Chiro at a pain clinic.Anyone had anything like this?
Let me know if it gets worse or doesn’t respond to what the doctor does.
OK Thanks
.
I suffered from a IT problem last year and stretching helped a little but the tennis ball treatment someone suggested here is what fixed it. Laying on the ball and finding the tight spots really worked well and also this fixed some lower back tightness. Mine was brought on by cycling and running. I went from 85 mile rides to 2 miles and one-footing it home. I found that wearing my running shoes down a little too much on the outside also can trigger it. Of course my coworkers find it a little odd when they see me laying on the floor of my office and groaning in pain with a tennis ball under my butt.
Did the pain ever leave the IT band area and go to the foot or the quad(side)?
I had an IT injury and it lasted for a long time too. Came on like gangbusters and then was very persistant after that. I started to see and active release guy who worked wonders on me. It was so bad that the only time I could run was when I went to his office and he would stretch me out and do some ART on the area and then I would run for 10 minutes and he would stretch me out again. We did this for several weeks a few times a week until I was up to 45 minutes pain free running. I too felt pain in the IT area and on the bottom of my foot and up through my gluts - this ended up being more of a sciatica thing in addition to the IT. I did a lot of Yoga and Pilates to help bring myself back into the game. Good Luck and ease back into it all (as hard as that is).
Not strange at all - compensation. See a good PT, one that understands the whole chain. Good luck.
Had a consultation. Will be in tomorrow morn for appointment. Chiro thinks the pain I am feeling is nerve pain. He will know more tomorrow. His guess(I just got home) Is the nerve up in the pelvic area. Thinks my IT band is probably healed. Beleives the nerve is not letting my muscle work right, causing the IT to tighten, therefore when I run I will inflame it. Never went to a Chiro before. Hope He is right. Something has got to be making that tighten up immediatly. Thanks for the response Maylene,I will keep you posted. Kenney
