Indy movie rec for math/science geeks.......Primer

Pimer… It won a Sundance award for Best Drama in 2004. The films budget of $7k is in no way a reflection of the quality of this film. It was written, directed, produced and edited by one guy. He’s also one of the lead actors. A good portion of the movie takes place in a garage or storage shed.

I had to watch it multiple times last weekend just to figure it all out. Finally had to go find a diagram of the storyline online so I could get a few things cleared up.

Here’s the plot:

Four engineers spend their free time in a garage trying to come up with ideas to attract venture capitalist money. Two of them make a breakthrough discovery that they decide to keep secret from the other two…time travel. The story then delves into how these two deal with the technical and ethical dilemmas they are faced with.

Highly recommended. Very realistic. I was actually a bit paranoid after seeing it the first time.

I liked it too… trying to figure it out can be highly addictive, though!

The most annoying thing was those white shirts and ties… who does lab work dressed like that?

Yes, that bothered me as well. Even at the party they had those on.

Was it as good as Pi?

I haven’t seen Pi but in reading the Primer critic reviews that film has been mentioned a few times.

Pi was pretty darn good.

Was it as good as Pi?

No… well… different.

Mmmm…pi…
