Indoor Trainer

In using my new cycleops trainer I can see some rubber coming off my tire and building up on the back of the trainer after only a few uses. Is this normal wear such as on the road? Has anyone else had this happen?

One drawback of trainers are that they destroy rear tires and skewers. Try using the least about of tension between the tire and trainer and make sure the bike is straight and secure. Be prepared to buy new tires often.

The rear wheel should be snug against the “roller” on the trainer, but not tight. If the rear wheel is too loose and slides on the roller you’ll burn rubber.

Good luck,

matt

yup. piles of rubber behind the trainer every few rides here too. i’ve resorted to using the most inexpensive tires i can find at the local bike shop for trainer riding. don’t worry about it too much though, if you’re like me, after a few weeks on the trainer you’ll be so excruciatingly bored that no matter how cold or rainy it is, you’re going outside!

Thanks guys…
