I was wondering how long people stay on their indoor trainer during the winter
.
usually I’m riding to spinerval tapes… 30mins-90mins…
1-2 hours per ride. Watch TVO of Triathlon races (Versus) and World Series of Poker and the occasional HBO movie.
30-90 minutes, although average is 45-60. Longest I’ve done on my own is 3 hours, and I was mentally stunted and couldn’t pee right for about 36 hours afterwards.
From 1-1/4 to 3 hours depending upon the focus of the training session.
45-60 mins hard if alone, 3 hours when with my roadie team training watching cycling vids (Giro, TdF) over Spinervals Tough Love (3 hours) and playing music trivia. About all I can handle on the drainer ![]()
You will build up a tolerance, don’t go right to 3hrs! I would start with 45min and build from there. Be sure to stand up and get some blood flow, if you know what I mean, I will also just get off the bike and walk the the bathroom or get some fresh water to break it up a bit, not long, just like a little coast down hill. Remember that indoor training can be really efficient, if done properly you can get allot out of your time, no “junk” miles. Make sure you have a fan on you, your HR will be elevated if you don’t have good air flow over your body. Put on some stimulating TV and go to town!! good luck.
I end up spending a lot of time on the trainer during winter (~8-10 hrs/week) - don’t like cycling in the cold! Longest trainer ride so far has been 4 hrs 50 mins. Managed 4 1/2 hrs yesterday. Long trainer rides help build mental resolve. It can be very boring though.
Ah, thanks … After perhaps 100 indoor training sessions, good to know ![]()
LOL!
Normal is 1 to 3 hours. My longest was 5 hours. Like others have said, don’t try to log a lot of hours at first. You will build up a tolerance. The trainer can be mind numbing.
i am good until about 90 mins. then the boredom takes over
I managed several over 6 hours last year. You find when you have commitments and yet want to do well you find ways to tolerate the time. I got up at 3 am numerous times to get in 6 hours so I could pick up my daughter from swim practice every Saturday. I will say that my Tivo is my savior. Now if I could just do well…

The longest for me is 3 hours, Spinervals Tough Love. I also like the 2 hour Have Mercy Spinervals. You do build up a tolerance to the trainer. I don’t like riding outside when it is in the 40’s and lower, my toes freeze!!
Two hours is average, 3:30 is my longest.
1-3 hours. Great time to burn through the Tivo.
