Asthma attack, at least for me. I’m probably the exception because I have asthma and very sensitive to dry air (especially indoors). Also, is it frowned upon to spit on an indoor track?
Dave from VA (running on George Mason University’s beautiful indoor 200M track)
I would hit on the albuterol prior to a track workout. There are other meds like singulair and inhaled steroids that have lowered my albuterol dosage to almost nil, except prior to races and high intensity intervals on the run only. I think the heating of air reduces the relative humidity to about 10%.which dry and cold are very common asthma triggers. Crosscountry skiing is another high level activity with many asthma triggers.
Spitting on the indoor track is pretty bad form, you will see it done, but please don’t. That goes to the drinking fountain as well. If you must spit in the fountain at least wash it down so others don have to look at it when they drink. Sputum does carry bacteria, and other nice cooties and it is flu season so thus the indoor track. I used to think peeing in the pool was bad form too, but I guess I am in a minority on that one.
You may want to watch your uphill ankle a bit as some people have trouble with speed on the tight corners. G
every time i play floor hockey with my sprinter buddies at our college’s indoor-track/bball/hockey/tennis courts (yeah, it’s a pretty flexible facility), they laugh at me when i jog over to the garbage cans to spit. apparently, if you think that nobody’s spit (or puked) on the track, you’re sorely mistaken. now, puking on the track is clearly bad form, but spitting seems to not be.
note: our track is more or less made of the same rubbery stuff as outdoor tracks - ie, it’s not wood like some indoor tracks.
Yeah, I figured that spiting on the indoor track was nasty but I wanted to ask. I must admit, I have become a big “spitter” when out on the road, it helps control my GERD.
Yea except for those who have to tie their shoe and put a knee down or worse yet a hand. Again it is like the pool, if everyone that runs plants a big green one in the corner every lap at 8 laps to the mile times 4 miles in a couple weeks it should be about knee deep in turn 4. Just because others are pigs, no need for you to be one. Miss Manners still says that is rude. Or maybe since urine is sterile we can all pee in the corners too. If you have ever had the pleasure of getting down on your hands and knees with a brush and bucket and cleaning someone elses spit off a bumpy rubber surface that has hardened there you wouldn’t have much respect for the primadonna slobs that think their shit don’t stink. I have and it is pretty disgusting. Some people need to get a life and show some respect for their facilities and the underpaid janitors that have to clean up after you. G
