I’ve certainly seen that it happens, either by some crazy left wing activist professors, or even in some cases whole universities.
My experience? I never felt that any of my professors were pushing any sort of ideology or agenda on me. Even in my religion and sociology classes, we more or less just read the studies that were available and were encouraged to draw our own conclusions.
As I think of it, I did have two one credit teaching methods classes where the professors had a clear ideology that was forced upon us without any real support. One of my friends felt that way about athree credit education class…so lets round up and say 5 credits out of the 70+ that I took (yes, I was in school for a while).
I ask because I just saw another Pagerganda University video that made college out to be some sort of left wing indoctrination machine. I was just wondering how common it actually is.
I don’t remember anything that would even remotely qualify as indoctrination when I was an undergrad at UD around 1990. I now work at a University that seems to be about as far from any sort of progressive indoctrination as a non-religious private University could be. I’ve never seen or heard of any of the stuff people talk about happening at some of the more highfalutin schools.
We have had a class on basically cultural competency that gets some of our students riled up. Most of the pushback comes from them seeing things like racism as a problem of older generations so they don’t know why it needs to be talked about.
There was a women’s studies class that a lot of the female swimmers signed up for and wore skirts to. Unshaved legs were apparently good for an extra grade or two. I never took it though.
I was in Europe during the launch of the Euro and there was definitely a huge view that globalization was good.
Having lived and gone to school in former Yugoslavia, we learned how wonderful communism is. We started studying it in, I think 1 year of high school, but it was all around us since grade 4 elementary school when we learned about history of our country. Later we had to read communist writers and philosophers and parts of Das Kapital. Now, Yugoslavia was a fairy soft form of communism and dictatorship and because we could travel as we pleased most of us knew it was total BS. On paper and in the lectures it sounded all nice but the teacher didn’t really have a plausible explanation why did the communists took a hotel away from my family along with 3 other buildings and property. There were lots of kids who had the same questions as I did but we didn’t really dare to push for an answer.
So yes, it was an indoctrination, albeit a soft version of it.

Then again, my kids attend a university that has a Chik-Fil-A on campus so I suppose they’re not attending an overtly liberal school.
My kids both experienced strong liberal/anti-Trump teachers in high school but they seemed to laugh it off and didn’t seem to be swayed by it. Then again, they grew up in California so it’s not surprising at a high school level.

My impression is that basically what is a phenomenon in a few departments at some prominent schools or maybe more widespread at some really progressive private schools has led people to believe it characterizes most schools. It would be akin to thinking that what goes on at a place like Liberty University is what goes on at most schools.
Universities in the early to mid 70’s when I attended were pretty well still places of open thought where radically different points of view could be debated. Political correctness seems to have taken over in a big way nowadays, or at least that’s the impression I get. Glad I was a university student when I was. .
The only indoctrination I’m aware of, and was in real time, was in K-8 Pentecostal Christian school where we were taught a literal interpretation of the Bible, YEC, dinos and man lived together, etc. Everything after that was a matter of either learning the truth, or just hearing other perspectives.
Between undergrad and grad school, I can’t think of any classes or professors that really pushed a biased political or ideological narrative.
It’s a common whataboutism of the right when the right has scores of private evangelical colleges pushing weird stuff.
I mean, who wouldn’t throw a Bob Jones University job applicant in the trash except for a hardcore fanboi?
I’ve never heard of a lib school with actual policy that you have to be gay and atheist. But their schools you have to be Christian and not drink or dance in your own free time as a prof. Hyperbole, sure, some. But that’s 100% true for the wife’s cousin teaching at a local elementary Christian school. Can’t drink in public anymore, can’t be gay or married gay, etc…in policy.

Then they assigned a summer reading project that was basically a book about why building a wall on the boarder is a bad idea. Proud of my daughter recognizing it for what it was,

I don’t quite get how the pronoun thing is indoctrination. I get it’s kind of over the top because it’s really only questionable for relatively few people but why not just respect those people and get on with your life? What’s the value in belittling them?
I found it odd. And I didn’t belittle them. I joked about it afterwards. They can use what ever pronouns they wish as I have no problem with it. Just as they should have no problem if I wish to identify as Klingon.

I would assume the idea is so that other people know how to refer to them. The only time I’ve encountered this is at the doctor’s office I go to, on the intake form it asks your preferred pronoun.
