i bet you consume more foreign goods then i do though. it’s always the ones bitching that are the biggest hypocrites.
if you want a pissing contest, let’s start here:
where is your shirt from? mine is from American Apparel. How about your furniture? mine is Stickley, and antiques that are from PA. HOw about your food? I buy locally grown, or right out of my garden. My car? It’s a Jag, a part of the Ford family. The rest of our cars are Ford Trucks.
So, don’t look at me, and say i’m such an offender. I don’t even like cheap goods (which includes my office furniture, but that’s all i could afford at the time.)
But aside from all of that, the point is, we make an effort, just like you do i’m sure.
Moreover, i’ll be damned i sit around and piss and moan that everything is going wrong when we have the greatest manufacturing output in the world. We live in a global economy and this is capitalism. What we have is a situation of mutual assured destruction (with the Chinese) and over the last 2 decades have had the strongest economy in the world.
Additionally, Chinese exports and workers aren’t harming the US job market, we have the lowest unemployment rate in a decade. So, let’s just be clear and not operate under the myths of the current protectionist thinking that’s dominating Washington right now. I encourage you to not be brainwashed and do some real research; you will see who is benefiting whom.
If you want to talk about why we’re in the hole; take it up with people who spend and not save; consumer debt is not linked to buying an American good or a foreign good. if you want to talk about federal debt, take it up with your politicians.
People are concerned about job security, why they no longer have pensions, etc. If we want to continue to be a strong economy, we need innovation, strong education, as we will not be able to compete on cheap labor. And, clearly Americans don’t want to quit buying cheap goods. So, who is to blame for that? Not China. We need to look at ourselves; the answers are here. We’re failing to innovate.
