A number of recient threads have brought up talk of independent equipment testing - What is required to do this properly?
I am guessing an Aero guro with no bias to any one company, wind tunnel time, veledrome time (for some equipment), a good protocol - test at different angles etc? How much is this likely to cost? How could the cost be met? - could the results be sold, Is there a market for it - I know biketechreview.com did this but much of the equipment they have tested has now been superseeded,
I would like to see some independent results for the following wheels Zipp 808 & 404, Planet X 101 and 83’s, Hed H3C, Stinger 60’s stinger 90’s, Blackwell 100’s, Xentis wheels, Pro wheels, corima four and 3 spokes etc. I am quessing wheel testing is best done in a tunnel.?
Once the new Hed bars have been brought out I would also like to see some testing on aero bars - Hed’s latest, Zipps, USE Tula’s, Oval Jetstream, Blackwell’s, Vision tech etc.
I would also like to see some testing on the leading triathlon frames - I think this would need both tunnel and veledrome testing to account for both aerodynamic and powertransffer savings - A recient thread had suggest that a P3c may offer signifacant savings over a P2k which is a real eye openner for me as from most of what you read the frame is talked bout as if there are few saving to be made.
From some of Gerards posts it seems that Cervelo may already be planning to do this but it would be good to know what drinking system’s/ equipment work best with certain frames - What frames suit flat disks which suit lenticular disks etc. I think this is perhaps something that individual Manufactures could offer.
