check it out.
From the base camp? That’s a ridiculously fast ascent. Most folks would suffer embolisms just attempting that feat. I’ve been at 21,000. . .Absolutely no desire to attack one of the really big 8-thousanders. . .But I can certainly begin to appreciate the effort required for these accomplishments.
There we go! Based on the record times for each, it is obvious that completing an ironman is slightly more difficult than climbing Everest. Ironman record is faster but this is just due to the much larger pool of people who have attempted it. It also mean I can climb Everest in about 12 hours based on my Ironman time. Glad I settled that, saved me a ton of time and money.
It took me a month to climb a mountain 5,000 feet lower. (Aconcagua).
Tom, can you clarify if the 8:14 time is from Camp IV to Summit back to Camp IV ? Either way, incredible. I am sure that if a track coach went up to Nepal and grabbed ~ 30 Sherpa kids you’d eventually bag a few world record marathoners who could compete with the Kenyans.
Iwas wondering that also- the CNN story in the link I provided does not specify.
I ran down from the summit of Kilimanjaro once in about four hours all the way down to the very first camp. It’s easy running down the mountain. Fun too.
Tom, one day I’d like to run the Mt. Everest Marathon 100 mile stage race:
Lots of uphill and downhill running ! Also would give me a good excuse to visit cousins and friends in India who I have not visited for 10 years.

Its just too bad that news reportage writing skills have eroded to the point where we cannot trust in their accuracy of language. In today’s superlative and hyperbole laden world of language. . .well, the guy could have run from Kathmandu to the summit for all we know. . .
Time to google. . .
Here’s the details. . .

Looks like 4 other people werent so lucky and died. I couldnt open the article for details. Cant imagine risking my life for that summit.
I hope you are kidding. The Whiteface Uphill is tougher than IM Lake Placid and Whiteface is only 8 miles and 5000 ft. elevation! Completing and IM is only a little tougher, and maybe it is easier that RUNNING a marathon. Heck, half of the IM’er walk half of the run, if not more.
