Check out this amazing bike, 33 years old and completely unused! Simply beautiful.
That’s a cool look back at some important bike history right there.
The new owner might wanna think about re-gluing those tires before any hard descents… ![]()
Wow, that is nice! I wonder if someone like Robin Williams knows about this bike? He has a couple of old Colnagos in his collection. I’m not really into the whole Italian bike thing (new ones that is), but I most certainly appreciate historical things.
That is very nice. There really is something in those old school steel frames that today’s frames just can’t match…

You know…
I’d love to be able to see Robin William’s bike collection…
I can;t even imagine just how many rigs that guy has. I wonder if he sorts them by country of origin.
Half the time R&A puts up bike porn i think it’s probably going to him.
I can’t see that getting ridden, imagine having to clean this paintwork up.
I see the bid has been amended from £24000 to £2400! Seems almost reasonable!
That looks exactly like a Colnago frame I have. Though the finish and condition of my frame doesn’t come anywhere close to what is pictured. Mine has the same cable routing for the rear brake on the top tube as well as the same guides over the BB shell. Unfortunately, when I bought mine, it did not have the original fork. It’s a pretty ugly blue/yellow fade and I’ve been meaning to refinish the frame for a few years now. That gold finish looks super cool. It gives me some ideas!! After seeing these photos, I’m embarrassed to say how my frame has been built up… not with the bits to do it justice I assure you.
Pools that would be a superb restoration project. Think of the funny searching for the period parts, Khai and I would kill for a build like that. Go for it.
I’ve been wanting to restore it, but I’ve got quite a few bikes so I’ve been having a hard time justifying the expense. I’ve thought a couple times about selling the frame, but just can’t bring myself to do so. My latest plan was to make it into a relatively understated fixie with the frame painted gloss black and the lugs a soft cream color. The lug cutouts would be black to match the frame. I was also thinking of leaving off any decals. The bike wouldn’t scream “Colnago”, but the lugs would give it away. But then a gain a full restore with polished rims, hubs, and period components would be very cool.

Check out Ernesto Colnago’s personal museum if you want to see one badass bike collection – http://www.cyclingnews.com/sponsors/italia/colnago02/?id=bikes. It’s too bad Ernesto is now suffering severe mental illness as evidenced by his limited edition 50th Anniversary ForEver butterfly bike.
Robin Williams is on my list of actors/actresses that somehow still get work even though they really need to go away.
Decisions, decisions, eh? Good luck.
Check out the steering on the '79 track bike. The stem rises up NEXT to the head tube!
I love how the chain goes through the frame on the '81 CX Pista.
OMG, that eBay bike is the one that was given to the Pope. I like the new pope bike – the one that envelopes the rider in plexiglass.
