This past October I spent 22 of 31 days on the road. One 12 day trip, 3 days home, and another 10 day trip. Most of my days on the road are 12-16hrs. When I have been home, I’ve been pretty much wasted - sleeping, doing laundry, and mentally preparing for another slog at it. Aside from tonight’s run, I’ve not trained at all since the camp in El Paso, and have been getting fat and slow.
So what’s a guy to do? Why, buy some speed, naturally! I picked up a used Corima disc from the owner of my local tri shop, who also happens to post occasionally here under the handle Timemachine. When we weighed it earlier in the summer, in came in at ~18g heavier than the spankin’ new '05 Zipp. No dimples though.
Khai, I’ve got one too, and love it! The hub is incredible, and much quieter than others. A bit heavier as you say, but once rolling, very fast wheel. The carbon breaking surface is ok if you get the special brake pads. Enjoy it!
Funny - I was thinking of the 18g difference as completely insignificant rather than “a bit heavier”. If I ever get to the point where 18g makes a difference, I’ll just fart and call it even.
Glad to hear about the hub though… I was wondering about that!
Wasn’t sure if you were one of the “weight-weenies”. I think it’s pretty light, and it feels very fast, and has given me some very fast times.
As I said, every time I spin the wheel I’m amazed at the hub, which just keeps spinning with very little resistance. Also cool since you don’t see a ton of them, as opposed to Zipp. I’m kind of a against the grain type, so I love it.
Sorry to hear about the travel schedule. Sounds like you need to get in a ring with your boss and some boxing gloves. Just flew in to Vancouver today and am now across in Victoria. Let me know if your travels bring you over.
