Hey DC area slowtwitchers. The wife and I will be in Rockville, MD (actually, we’re staying in Gaithersburg) for 10 days from approximately July 14-26. Any scoop on where to swim? Also, I will not likely be able to take my bike, so it would be great if anyone might know where I can rent a road bike… unless someone has a spare 61cm road bike they’d be willing to lend.
Any help is appreciated.

no idea about swimming. for bikes, try all american bikes in damascus. www.aabikes.com. They’re in Damascus, so reasonably close. good luck!

I’m not sure about swimming in Montgomery County Maryland since I live in nearby Northern Virginia but I’m sure either Georgetown Univ., GWU, or U-MD would have a pool. I use the Aquatic Center at George Mason Univ. in Fairfax, VA; its excellent and its set up for 50 meters until late August. As for renting a bike, check out Pro Bicycle shop in Georgetown, right on M street (close to the Key Bridge). I think they rent bikes.

As for the swimming, go to the Rockville Municipal Swim Center near the Rockville Town Center (near route 355). There is a Performance Bike out near Gaithersburg, but beyond that I can’t think of much. Check out dctriclub.org for people who might have better answers as well.
For swimming I would check out the Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village YMCA. You could do a free 1 week trial pass to swim for the 7 days gratis. In regards to bikes, Performance or All American Cycles, might rent, I’m really not sure.
