IMWI - Bike Course

I know lots of people are riding the IM course west of Madison right now getting ready for September. Please, please, please do not litter along the course. In the last several weeks I’ve noticed a bunch of empty gel pouches around the course - way more than on other non-IMWI-course roads that get significant bike traffic.

Also, please be courteous and respectful to drivers and residents along the course. There has been increasing tension between cyclists and motorists and residents along the course. I realize the roads are rough in spots, but there’s no reason for groups to take up the entire lane.

If you’ve followed recent Capital Times articles regarding cyclists and motorists (http://www.madison.com/tct/news/stories/459118) and an older article, some of the reader’s responses are frightening, such as people threatening to spread glass along the IMWI course on race day (a few years back tacks were put along part of the course).

Couldn’t agree more.
I went up a few weeks back and it was pretty clean, so that was good.

But as I was driving to my starting point I came up on two cyclists…they took the entire lane by riding side by side. One guy was essentially riding on the crown of the road…right on the line. How the hell is a car supposed to pass in that situation?

If you are going to ride like that you should just pray for death every evening.

Yes please, it’s ridiculous the way some people ride out there. Also, make sure you stop at all the stop signs, etc. There are always reports of local cops ticketing…

That is why I never carry ID. Then, tell the cops my name is John Jacob Hinkel Hiemer Schmidt.

But yes…there are gels, bottles and wrappers all over the course.
