Sorry if this has been posted already. It looks like it might be cool this year, so beware of low sodium levels…

I think you missed the real moral of the story:
Your wife will never have her cell phone WITH her when you really need to get in touch with her.
Or it will not be charged.
Never a truer statement spoken!!

I am 99% certain I saw that guy during the run. He collapsed maybe 100-200 yards in front of me along the lakeshore path at roughly mile 21 before the turnaround. A small group of volunteers and racers were already giving first aid when I got up to him, and had called the paramedics. He was totally out of it but was breathing/moaning. After giving up my garbage bag and realizing there was nothing else I could do, I kept running (mostly to stay warm) and saw him getting loaded into the ambulance on my way back from the turnaround. I figured it was simple hypothermia; I had no idea he was that bad off.
With Gatorade Endurance on the course, it is absolutely baffling to me that anyone could have that degree of low sodium levels on the course. No way this was caused simply b/c he did not take his sodium pills. He must not have had any sports drink on the entire course.
