Howdy,
I am currently signed up for IMWA, but am thinking about switching to IMNZ. I had some health issues that have made this year suck, and am slowly coming back. If I do IMWA it will not be a peak performance race, NZ with 3 more months will likely be a good performance for me. This is a factor (I don’t want to totally suck, just kinda suck).
Any opinions on these two races? Whatever I choose it will be my 1st IM FWIW.

I have always thought that IMNZ would be sweet, Personally, I would rather travel to and check out New Zealand than Australia(not saying Australia isn’t nice). However, IMWA is super fast, and I hear there is some great wine tasting nearby.
NZ is fabulous, but remember that your big training volume will be in January so if it’s a rainy winter, not so fun.

Did you do Taupo or Auckland? Are the roads chipseal in Taupo too?
Taupo 3x (and the 1/2 once). Yes, chip seal all over the country. It’s no big deal though.
Yah, not a deal breaker, just not a fan. Very likely I’ll do NZ at this point. Sucks about weather training, that is why I thought I’d never do this race…
Im a Taupo local and would say that the road is rough… even by NZ standards. But yea at the end of the day its not too bad.
Compared the the San Francisco streets or some of the Vineman roads, the roads around Taupo are smooth as butter!

complex has both indoor and outdoor 25m pools - ac baths i think it’s called.
