Imva?

To those that were wondering about a possible IM Virginia (myself included)… I found the proposal on the web:

http://www.rctubbs.com/ironman/proposal/1executive%20summary.htm

cross your fingers…

the course looks really beautiful

could be a very nice event
.

Do you have any idea when they will have an answer to their proposal? I have wanted to take my wife to the east coast. I would love to take her to that area(much more than Lake Placid)I have been there a number of times, there is a ton of things to do and see. I would definetly sign up for 2005.Just would hate to miss other sign ups waiting.

the site says that the race would probably take place in fall 2006 for the first time because some issues about water temperature aren’t solved yet - the final decision should have been made already

so you will have enough time to sign up

What kind of water temp. issues?

I really do hope that they have an IM there…I have been to Williamsburg I few times and it seems like an ideal area to have one. If they have it I will be one of the first to sign up. Frankly, if they have one in Arizona I probably wouldn’t sign up (not they need to worry filling any IM race!).

Note from March 11th We spent two full days with Ironman Race Director & Swim Specialist, Peewee Bramblett. The Jamestown Beach area satisfies Ironman’s criteria for a swim venue. The challenge is the water temperature. Their research suggest that the water averages only 60 degrees which would cause hypothermia for the less experienced swimmers. The Country Road is also a challenge in that trying to get emergency care to someone on that road would be very difficult. For these reasons, a 2005 event is not likely. Given Ironman’s timeline and planned events, we are now talking about a Fall, 2006 venue. We are in discussions with the community members to ascertain what impact this has to the contributing community facilities. I will be working to identify run alternatives and hope to be back with Ironman within the next three to four weeks.
