IMOO mosquito warning!

Just a note to the visitors to Madison area, the mosquitoes are terrible. Pack spray. I live about 40 minutes east of Madison and the mosquitoes loved the wet and hot weather that we had a few weeks ago. The population exploded, I have never experienced bugs like this at home, it reminds me of the Canadian Bush EH! It shouldn’t bother the competitors while swimming (obviously), riding or RUNNING but walking will be vicious. I am posting primarily for the supporters and families, they need to be prepared! I know my kids get very crazy when swarmed by Wisconsin’s state bird. Today after a run they attacked and I noticed quite a few walkers that were continually swatting bugs.

Any input from the residents of Madison would be welcome. I don’t know how bad they will be downtown but with the high water and close proximity to the lakes they may be wicked! Good luck to all!

Any West Nile Virus activity in the area?

Where there’s mosquitos, there’s West Nile, and it’s quite deadly.

You are right…after the rain and flooding about 10 days ago, it’s bad. Walking at dusk might be nightmarish without some spray. I’ll bet the organization might be on top of this.

Suggest bug repellant wipes in your special needs run bag if out after dark.

I’ll bet the organization might be on top of this.
hahahahahhahaha
.

Huge.

Ahhh…you have to have been there to understand how good those volunteers are…and I’ll count them as part of the organization!

HTFU, Paulo

couldn’t resist. this from a WI guy who:

  1. was kept awake by 3 kids in the middle of the night last night with bites all over and
  2. will be packing spray in every bag available on Sunday

I don’t know about West Nile but the mtoes almost carried me off on my ez run tonight.

come to think of it I am feeling a little fatiigued…West Nile?

I apologize now so I won’t need to later.

West nile is very serious. You can get bitten before the swim and be dead before you cross the finish line at 16:50 with your family on tow.

There has been just 1 case of West Nile in Wisconsin this year.

The 'squitos are the worst I can recall in the Madison area in my 30 years. I’ve been getting eaten alive even while running, but I’m pretty slow, so…

  1. leaving the family at home for this one. I only plan to have them in the finish chute to screw up other kona folks a few years from now (whats the point if you’re not gonna screw someone up)

  2. having said that I was bit tonite and expect to be west nile dead by tomorrow

good by forever

I too live here in Wisconsin and can testify to the boom in the mosquito population. From what I recently read, we have just seen the start of it. The piece in the newspaper said due to the recent heavy rains in the area, the population will continue rise for the next week, making what is already bad, worse.

Bump, just to make sure everyone gets this. I live in SO WI and they are TERRIBLE!!! Bring multiple cans of spray, some of the stores around me are running low. My kids look like they have Chix Pox they have so many bites, and that is with spray. They are attacking in the sun, shade, soon it will be anarchy cats and dogs living together…Good Luck to everyone!
