Immune system after long workouts... what to do?

Hey guys,

After your long workouts (over 3 hrs or so) Do you take anything to boost your immune system as to not get sick?

I did a 4.5 hr ride yesterday and am suddenly feeling a little sick. I would rather not have this be a somewhat regular occurrence.

Thanks,
Brad

Make sure to take a recovery drink within 1/2 hour of completing your workout. I would also suggest durning high training peaks, take some Organic Echinacea Plus Tea by Traditional Medicinals (2 X Day for 7 Days), In addition to rest and recovery.

The best thing you can do is get enough sleep.

long exercise bouts tend to suppress immune function acutely. Stay away from sick people.

L-glutamine
.

Glutamine. There are some studies showing it has a positive effect on immune response, but I also think there’s some evidence to the contrary. We do know with good certainty that glutamine levels drop after extended exercise. There is less clarity about whether post-exercise supplementation helps.

In any event, I usually take some (I find protein powder that has high glutamine content and use it for my recovery drink).

Google it and decide for yourself whether it’s worth doing.

Glutamine.

L- Glutamine X2 it also helps with digestive issues.

I’m a huge fan of glutamine. Started taking it over a year ago after long/hard workouts and before bed. Haven’t been sick since.
