IMMoo with a broken wrist

So I wont know for sure until tomorrow, but it would appear that I broke my wrist on Mondays ride. Literally less than 10 yards away from getting off the busy lakeshore path, the last real ride before Sunday. I hear a lady scream, then all of sudden some a-hole on a mountain bike swerves in front of me and I’m airborn. I saw a sports guy today that specializes in orthopedics and he thinks its broken. The x-rays tomorrow will tell us.

So does any one have any suggestions/advice? The bike store is switching my bar end shifters so I can do most of my shifting with my left hand. But I have no idea how I can swim? The guy said that if I race I could expect some pretty serious pain because of the increased circulation. No matter what I’m racing, but has anyone ever been in this situation?

I did a partial triathlon season with a broken hand. My ortho set it and when he casted it he made it a more ideal swim catch but also making it so I could still brace it on handlebars. He also did a water cast. Essentially fiberglass and teflon bubble wrap.

I would think between now and then the swelling would go down considerably and it’s not like your going to be getting your HR super high. I think you’ll be fine. I would definately have some tylenol handy during the race.

Might want to read through the USAT rules regarding cast. I never did, but never had anyone say anything. Might be a good case of better to say your sorry then ask for permission… although with that said make sure your not a hazard to anyone else on the bike.
