There are already some threads about IMMoo, so I thought I would ask a question. How does the bike course compare to that of IMCDA?
Thanks,
David

I’ve done both and IM Moo is more difficult. (6:06 at CdA and 6:19 at Moo).
Definitely Wiscaaaahnsin.
Wisconsin - except for first last 10-15 miles you’re either going up or down.
CDA - more flat sections.
My guess would be a 10-12 min difference for faster folks and 20+ for BOPers.
I dont mind the extra hills… how many times do you actually have to brake into a turn at IMMoo?
Seemed like a lot- the course is more rolling hills, does not seem as tough as CdA but I could feel it coming off the bike…similar to Vineman if you have done that or are familiar
.
I have tried to forget that cold day in 2006, but on a lot of the downhills once you get some speed it is a right turn so on a lot of them you don’t get the real benefit of letting it roll out. It was particularly wet that year which made the turns a bit more treacherous.
As everyone else has said, I much prefer the CdA course. Moo felt like evertime I got going there was another uphill, sharp bend, and/or headwind.
For the top AGers, the bike times are only a minute or two faster at CDA than Wisconsin in 2008 (and conditions were good at both venues that year). Does that suggest the courses are more similar than people are suggesting or that the competition was greater at Wisconsin?
I don’t know which pros were at either, so I can’t compare based on that alone. But I can guess that for the pros, there probably is not much difference between the courses. CdA is probably a little easier, as the couple minute difference suggests. But I also throw out for consideration that the pros have mad biking skills, and are not as affected by little things like turns and hills. Without having any numbers to back it up, and no inclination to find them, I would guess the average AG’er time is faster at CdA than Moo, as the average time of the AG’ers probably slows more for the technical parts of Moo.
Realistically, both courses are very similar. I wouldn’t choose one IM over the other just based on the bike course. If you are good on flat to rolling hills, you’ll be fine on either. Neither one has monster climbs, and both have sections of flatness mixed in.
