IMMoo peeps, what is your workout this last weekend before tapering. I’ve got one last century w/ a 3 mile runoff and then its time to taper. Good luck to all who’re doing the race.
Peace,
Rob

Sounds pretty close to what mine was in prep for Lou. I’m so glad to be in my taper. Well most of the time I am.
110 on the bike, 5 on the run.
I’m tired, hungry for junk, and crabby- looking forward to resting up!
Sat: 100 bike\10 min run
Sun: 20 bike\12 miles run
Drops off nicely after that!!!
do you think a 3 week taper is necessary? i think i will be doing a 2 week taper keeping the bike volume at my average of 250mpw but just running about 20mpw and uping the swimming for sure. the 2nd week(first week of taper) i will probably bike about 200 run 15 doing lots of tempo and a few track workouts in the last 2 weeks
Sat: Long open water/ 10k
Sun: century ride
Mon: TAPER!!!
I have two more weekends!!
My plans call for a 4.5 hour ride this Saturday with 30 min run and three hour ride on Sunday. Then it calls for a 112 mile ride next Saturday, two weeks from the race!!! I thought this sounded bit close so I asked a training buddy who is a top 10 Kona AGer and he said it was nuts to do such a big ride so close to the race. I’ll probably extend my rides this weekend and then do a four to five (sat.) and two (Sun) the following weekend.
Sounds like Rich Strauss’ plan ![]()
Same here
.
Got Friday off from work, so I’m headed to Madison to ride the course and do a 5-6 mile run over to Observatory Hill - likely followed by a splash in the lake and a big ol’ burger at the Great Dane. Sat. - maybe an EZ run with the dogs in the a.m. and then off to Pleasant Prairie to drop off my bike and do the check-in/packet pickup. Sun. - Pleasant Prairie tri - balls out and hope for the best. After that, things get easier, but I might squeeze in a couple more 4K+ swims for good measure, and probably at least a 16 mile run the following weekend. Good luck to ya on your last big weekend and enjoy your taper!

That’s about where I am at also. Although cutting out the junk has helped drop the lbs that I was not able to prior.
Hoping that this last long ride goes better than the past few weeks.
Cutting the junk and getting better sleep (quitting shitty night job) were the biggest keys for me. I’ve never been in better shape- lost 21# this year and am running faster than I ever have in my life. I’m assuming the cravings are b/c my body wants salt and calorie-dense foods. When I really think about it, junk food becomes very unappealing. A huge bowl of pot roast w/ a ton of vegetables sounds about right!
Masters swim today + 6 mile run.
Sat - 100 ride + easy t run
Sun - 17 mile run
My taper doesn’t start until after next weekend either, which I’m glad because 2 weeks is more than enough for me to recover.
Last weekend was 112/4 mile brick on sat and 1.5 hr run sunday.
This weekend is 3 hr ride saturday, 2 hr run sunday.
This weekend will ride 110 on Sat, probably swim on Sun, and run 16 miles/2 hrs on Monday. Then 4 hr ride next Sat with 1.5 hr run on Sunday. Feeling kinda weary right now and not looking forward to the 110 tomorrow.
I’m heading out there this weekend with crafty, we’re doing bike + half marathon on the course. I don’t know yet what I’ll do next wekend, prob a more balanced wknd of run and bike (with a flight satpm to sunday pm to chicago to get video of chicagotri). i got a 12-17 now so it’ll be good to see how that goes vs my std setup that I ran 3 weeks ago.
I was thinking of driving up to Madison to ride the course tomorrow - 8/18, weather looks pretty lousy…unless you finish up by 1pm.
Forecast for Madison, WI:
Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 53. East wind between 6 and 8 mph.
Saturday: Periods of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 66. East wind between 9 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
I go utterly flat if I taper too early so next week is still a big week for me. I don’t even want to write down what I’m doing because it is too ugly to have to look at…
You and me both Tom, if I back off to early I really feel it, I think I am best with one easy week and one very easy week prior to the race.
Fri: 100mi ride in tough hills
Sat 1:15 swim
Sun 15mi run
Similar next week except the ride will be flat and a bit shorter, run will be more like 10-12 miles then it drops off. I can’t do 3 week tapers - I end up feeling stale and creaky. 2 weeks works much better for me.
