IMLP - Was the goal to have a woman cross 1st?

This isn’t meant to be a Bobby Riggs thread…

In looking at the video on IML, PNF made a comment regarding a woman crossing the line 1st. Did she mean the swim course or the entire event?

I’m just curious to the future of IMLP if this was/is the intent…

I watched her say that too…it would seem to me that she wanted a women to cross the overall finish line first.

I remember the comment but I don’t think she meant first overall. Next year all the prize money for the women will be in CDA. I am not sure which event will have the big money for the men.

I’m pretty sure the intent behind having a women’s pro division that started earlier than everybody else was to have a bit of a spotlight on the women by having one of them be the very first across the line. The IronMan Live site had a comment to that effect.

This was posted on the Ironmanlive updates during the race:

"Delogne comes into town

He’s enjoying lots of high fives as he gets close to the finish line.

In case you were wondering what the grinding sound was, that was Paula Newby-Fraser’s teeth grinding away.

The eight-time Kona champ has been trying to set this women’s “showcase” up all year … only to have Delogne come up with an incredible race to spoil the show!

Oh, well … regardless, it is an incredible debut for Delogne."

Sounds like they really wanted a woman to cross the finish line first. Their race re-cap article says that.
