IMLP-still time to book hotel?

I haven’t booked anywhere yet, we are still waiting to see if anything pops up on out timeshare…when should I start to panic?

Currently I’m feeling like I should just book somewhere and maybe cancel but it seems like that won’t work too well with some of the places taking a deposit…any recommendations?
Thanks,
Andrew

still plenty of time…and places.

That’s what i was hoping…Thanks

.

Hi - since you are local what do you suggest at this late date? Is there a better way than just calling the LP tourism number?

I’ve got a room reserved at the Hilton that I am not going to use… you can have it if you want

The Prague doesn’t start taking reservations for IM week until after Jan 1st
.

Thanks, I’ll check out their policy on cancelling, it looks ok from the pics, an older motel style place I guess?
Andrew

It is older but it’s not bad, more affordable than the places right downtown and only a short walk from everything. It’s also on the bike and run course and is a great spectator spot if you have family/friends coming to watch the race.

From a hotel perspective:
If budget is not an issue, then you still have plenty of time.
If budget is an issue, then you are most likely in trouble or need to be lucky.
I booked mine (Crown Plaza) 10 days before IMLP (Jack Rabbit canceled my reservation…) and while it was expensive (well not that much since I used points), I did not regret it to be right there in the middle of the action.

Get a list of local hotels /motels from the VB…and basically start calling around for the deals and such. Make sure you tell each place that you racing IM because some provide discounts for the event. There are numerous place that are in the perfectly acceptable category, and handful in the higher end category that are in walking distance of everything. After finding some specific places that sound good post the names on ST b/c im sure someone will have some feed back. While places are still readily available for a while I would book sooner than later just to get i out of the way. Also some places dont start taking reservations for IM week for another little bit. Another thing to think about is that some place require a certain minimum of days that you will be staying for IM week. In addition there will always be places to be had in Saranac lake and Wilmington. However If it is your first time to LP…or not, I would highly suggest being in LP, it just make things that much easier. You will not have to get in you car three times a day and spend half of it looking for parking. Also if you are not in LP it is a pain in the a** to get in and out of on race day…might be a concern for your family. Any other questions on places or LP in general feel free to ask.

You can always put your name on a the waitlist at a number of the hotels/motels. I’ve had friends get rooms as late as a week out as the cancellations tend to come in quite late.

If you have a large enough group, renting a house for a week is the way to go.

hmm, I need an extra room. Where is the Hilton in relation to the Crown Plaza, which is sold out?

Bob

the Hilton is smack in the middle of town. Nice digs. I can’t say where it is in relation to the CP exactly… but I think they’re close.

it’s at the opposite end of main street, at the corner of Main and Saranac ave. …going the other direction around mirror lake from oval(transition are)

Is it around $275/night?

It might be worth waiting for and book there.
House rental seems steep unless i put together a race crew of crazy Canadians!

Thanks for the feedback,
Andrew

I believe so.
However I ended up paying one night (or maybe less) for 5 nights using some points.

I am not racing this year, but will be up there as a volunteer. I don’t want to scare you, but my effrots have resulted in locating no availability in any motel/hotel. Even the ones in Saranac are booked. I’ve checked everythign from teh Econo Lodge (cheap) to the Lake Placid Lodge ($$$$$) and eveyone just chuckles before they tell me they’re booked. I wouldnt’ wait if I were you.

I’m getting on it as most things are booked and it is big $$$$ for what seems available…I’ll have to do some trolling later today.
Thanks for the feedback and feel free to scrape me off the ground on race day
