My wife and I are planning to head to Lake Placid next year to volunteer on race day then get her signed up for 2009. I went to ironmanusa.com but they’ve already pulled the spectator’s guide - can anyone tell me if there is a parking lot for people staying in the Wilmington area?
Do you mean on race day? They don’t close the roads on that end until later in the morning. If you come into town for the race start, you’ll be able to drive right into downtown and find parking fairly easily. If you come in later, then there are designated parking spots at all ends of the town and then shuttle buses to get you to downtown. You won’t have a problem getting around, unless you’re intending to drive in and out several times through the day.
My family came in from Keene. They drove in around 5:30 and were able to drive right downtown. They had to go the back roads once they got close to town since in front of the transition area the road was closed very early, but they were able to get in easy and find parking.
Thanks! We are thinking of doing peeling at the swim exit next year, but are not sure where we’ll end up. In any case, I’m sure the wife’ll want to see the start so we will be there first thing in the morning. We’ll probably park somewhere before the lights at 86 and 73 (I think it’s 73 - where the run course turns off of 86 in Placid) so we can head back to the hotel before midnight.
