IMLP is out. Now what?

A buddy and I were going to do Lake Placid last year, but never made it past the initial registration screen before it closed.

My question then is: “What race (in the general Mid-Atlantic area) should we consider?” He wants to sign up for Louisville when it opens, but I would like to do a smaller race. Any thoughts? What would you do? Do you know of any new IM distance race for 2008?

Thanks.

Rob

Hi,

Snag a community fund spot.

Tom,

Indeed it does. Graham Fraser told me yesterday that with the money that they will be able to raise this year at IMC through the community fund spots and other IMC fund raising efforts, that NAS and IMC will be able to help build a new ice rink in Penticton - a gift back to the city on the 25th anniverseary of this great event.

Hi Steve,

Wow!

That is huge, and appropriate to build a skating rink in Penticton. Long before the triathlon came to the region, the youth hockey camp in Penticton was the sporting draw to an otherwise retirement community. Nice to give back to the region.

Good Karma indeed

Cheers

It’s a big world out there … try a race in Europe maybe? My experience has been that all in, it was only slightly more expensive than racing in LP (coming from Toronto), and not as much hassle as one would think.

Chesapeake Man!

That is awesome.

While I’ll try for a community fund spot (and happy to do it), it’s probably a long shot to get one. I showed my wife a write-up of Quelle Challenge Roth in Bavaria in June and we’ll probably have that as a back-up. I was hoping for Lake Placid for my final IM. Maybe it will be, but probably not this year. Maybe I’ll sign-up for the CEO challenge (which seems a little over-the-top) before I retire.

Why give up on LP. There is sill the community fund and one other method of getting in. All is still not lost.

I second the vote for Chesapeake Man. It’s not a sanctioned “Ironman”, but if you are just about doing the distance, this is the race. It is on much of the same course as the Eagleman Half in Cambridge, MD. Check out the Columbia Triathlon website.
If your heart is set on a sanctioned Ironman, check out Arizona or Louisville for next year.

Do chesapeakeman THIS year.

8 weeks to add some long runs and rides and bam, Bob’s your uncle.

Leave the U.S. to race. I know it involves extra expense and effort, for some it may not work, but consider IM Austria.
