IMLP Entry wanted

I am interested in doing IMLP 2005. Is it possible to transfer entries for these events? How does that work? If you (or you know anybody) has an entry and they decide to bail anytime soon, let me know. You can e-mail direct too: kurt@cycle-smart.com

Thanks,

Kurt

I believe the only options to get in LP 2005 are to qualify at other races or enter throught the Community Fund slot, which is not bad… you have to raise an extra $600 that goes to the LP community (usually there are slots until a couple of months before the race) and you get a racing uniform (trishort & top, tshirt and hat). Check out: http://www.ironmannorthamerica.com/commfund/index.html

Yup…they don’t allow transfers or buying someone elses slot. Only options are to earn a slot at another race (good luck finding out what races have slots until the last minute) and a community fund slot.

Another option that I did this year was sign up through multisports.com. You get entry free plus their 24 week training program for the same cost as a community fund slot.

Cheapest way is probably through one of the qualifier races. I know at Gulf Coast this year all you had to do was show up at the awards banquet early and you got one.

Good luck qualifying. While there may be someone willing to “sell” you a slot, this is quite illegal and has major insurance implications (ie racing under someone else’s name). IMNA and USAT prohibit this. They will likely ask you for picture ID at registration anyway, so this approach won’t work. Go for the qualification or community slot.

I “qualified” to get a slot for this years race at the florida half, and I believe the eagleman also had qualifying slots. They had the qualifiers listed on the ironman north america web site well in advance. To be honest, the term “qualify” amounted to waiting around after the awards ceremony to pay for your slot. At the florida half, they had 25 slots for each ironman north america event. I believe the only race they actually had 25 people waiting around for was ironman florida…and even then they asked a few times if there was anybody else interested since they didn’t have the full 25 people. There were only about 10-12 people who wanted a LP slot, and even less for other events.

Your best bet is to go to a “qualifier” for LP - We had 10 LP slots at Steelhead this year and only gave out 7 to athletes that wanted to go. At the 1/2 Ironman in florida, EVERYONE (25) who wanted a slot to LP, Canada, Wisconsin, and Ironman Florida got a slot! It will cost you to travel to another race, but you’ll need a tune up race for LP anyway! Z
