IMLOU swim

I don’t know if this has been covered before or not but I’ll ask anyway. I’ll start by saying that I’ve never seen the OH river; is this going to be a mass start or will we be going in waves? Is the river big enough to have a mass start?

Big enough? I’m assuming you haven’t seen a large river before (MI, MO, CO, etc.) It is likely wider than Mirror Lake at LP there. It is probably 1/5 mile across I’m guessing. Yes, mass start.

You’re right…not seen the big ones. Thanks for the info. Glad its a mass start…wouldn’t want to miss the experience!

what about water quality/clarity? I used to live in Cincy (north) and it wasn’t good (granted I was a kid any maybe told shit by the adults to keep me out) . Louisville is downstream, but quite a ways.

I checked out the water last weekend after a long training ride. The water was fine. There was some murkyness at the edge from the stirred up silt but about 4-5 feet in the water was fine. I think most people will be pleasantly surprised at the water quality. IMO - Tempe Town lake was worse. Compared to the Am Triple T, you can drink this water.

Water temps were not as warm as suggested. There seems to be too much volume flow to get super warm. It should be a wetsuit race (just within the limit), however, I suggest going with a sleeveless wetsuit. There is a current but its not something anyone should lose any sleep over.

The race will certainly be a mass deep water start. The swim area is huge. Lots of room for weaker swimmers to ease into the race. This swim should be good for first timers and folks who are a little nervous about the swim. Sighting will be a breeze. There are bridges to sight and the shoreline is not far away.
