IMLou road surface?

Just wondering from those who have biked the course as to the road conditions and surface? Any comparison to other IM or HIM courses??

good to very good for most of the course. There were 2 areas that were a little rough, and one of them is supposed to be fixed as we speak. Comparable to IMLP for example. Bring whatever wheels/tires (even 19s) that you want.

Now 42 is mostly re-paved, although there still are serious rough patches on 42 right before you get to 393 and the start of the loop. Every other part is really nice.

Thanks…I wasn’t sure if it was more of that pebblely, bumpy type similar to Eagleman and Lubbock. Appreciate the info

Ah, I know that road surface (hate it). There is one small stretch on Schoolhouse road that is 'kinda like that - but, that stretch is very short (? 2 miles), uphill and windy and you won’t notice much going 10 mph  The rest is typical nicely paved, smooth roads.

I rode it a few weeks ago and riding it again this weekend. The trouble spots I noticed were at the bottom of the hill at the bridge on 1694 out and back there was a large pot hole on the way back that i was amazed it didnt tear apart my wheel but the guy riding with me hit it and flatted.
the other spot was about a 200meter section after you get back on hwy 42 shortly after you get off of 1694. I forget the name of the town but its right as you are at the end of town and the whole lane on that side was very rough.
Like I said I am going back this weekend and am going to take note to see if these are still like this or if they are in the sections that are being repaired.

Skylight. It is about 2 miles or so down 42 after you finish the out and back. That is the worst part of the course, except for the one lane bridge on River Rd.
