Incredible Race for my first IM. Well run and if they didnt have a one to one volunteer to athlete ratio it was dang close.
The swim was awesome, 1:02 with no wetsuit, a bit of a current but not like Friday mornings practice swim at all.
The bike route was good, the road was smooth as silk barring 2 small sections (Im from Michigan my best roads look like a moonscape) I did not see the car problems in La Grange people reported. I saw that there was some folks in KY who were wishing they picked a different route to go to church/bingo/the bar/grandmas that morning. I am pretty sure I saw the same cars trying to go through where we took a left back onto 42 on both my laps. As far as I was concerned the cops were 100% more concerned with the cyclists than any driver. Fast as heck last 40 miles Started out averging 16.4 finished near 17.00 due to that quick last leg. so a 6:34 was well under my planned 7:00
The run was a run, boy did I start out strong, but what can I say, I am a 220lb non running fool. 6:47 with some mean heat issues at mile 17 that required some serious focus to finish… And as it was pointed out by my limited fan base who was watching “next time save a smidge to run into the finish”
Such is life.
Thanks to the guy in T1, dude you rock I didnt have to do a thing and I swear if I would have asked you to apply my lube you would have!
Semper Fi!
